So the knife in my chest isn't the problem. The problem is my reaction to it, which is to bleed out and die.

...huh, the analogy still kinda works there.

Yep. Had some losses in my family the past couple years. Learned that there's another stage of well-being that I didn't even know about.

You can be generally depressed, but temporarily optimistic, and even momentarily happy.

But you can also be generally happy, but temporarily discouraged and momentarily sad.

Basically three tiers. Long term, short-term, and immediate.

Like, right now, I feel generally happy with my life. But I also feel a bit stressed about this week, and right now, I'm happy because I'm dicking around on Reddit.

I like this one.

It may sound silly to some, but it's a great way to address the "sentimental electronic" issue. Y'know. Your old walkman from high-school, your first game console. Broken with no hope of repair, but too many memories.

Instead of letting it rot in a drawer, or throwing most of it away on some other repurpose, use the whole thing in a shadowbox display.

Ahhhh, that's what it is.

I kept looking at this thinking how serial-killerish it was. Thought it would was mostly just the uneven lines, but the case mixture really drives that home.

Pretty good for a first go. You may have a knack for this.

> The whole project took me about 5 days.

And you probably noticed a ton of stupid little time-burners in the process that you will now avoid. So next time, you'll be much quicker.

Kinda like how I spent the last week trying to get a section of drywall perfect, only to realize that some flaws actually do hide well under paint.

Sometimes you have to waste time now to learn how to avoid wasting it later.

Good work :)

The fuck I'm not.

I'm the only one qualified to give this presentation. I can't just get someone else to do it.

Honestly, change 5 min to 5 years and it rings more truth.

Started thinking this same thing a paragraph in.

But you can have too much Douglas Adams unless you actually are Douglas Adams. This is not too much. A full scoop, not heaping, just about right for most cases.

Agreed. It's just like working out at the gym. You don't try to bench 150lb on your first go, then conclude that its not worth it after you injure a muscle. You work up to it over time.

Strain is good, but injury is not and comes from too much strain in too short a timeframe. That's what should be avoided.

I've always been told I have a green thumb.

Turns out, I just know how to neglect plants the exact right amount. Plants hate being bothered, and once their core needs are met, they just want to be left alone and not touched.

The more I learn, the more I find that finely targeted neglect seems to be the key to successful plant care. Obviously some plants need more neglect than others. Experience, trial and error allow you to learn how to disregard them properly.
