I wouldn’t risk it. I was a bike messenger in nyc for a number of years too. The amount of bad/distracted driving I see and the amount of pedestrian deaths makes it not worth it to me. It’s a shame too because it is a very bikeable city infrastructure-wise.

Nyc, I’d anything has gotten way more conservative and uptight. Yuppies everywhere, calling noise complaints after buying apartments above bars and music venues. I’m still in my 30s, and when I was a kid I used to goto punk matinees at cbgbs, abc no rio, and c squat so you’re wrong again. All those places are gone. Enjoy the frozen yogurt stores and corner banks.

I’m not upset at all, I’m just pointing out the facts. You say New Haven is a boring, unimpressive city, but think Manhattan in 2023 is some enriching cultural experience. The irony is lost on you I suppose.

You just said you goto rangers games and stay in manhattan. In 2023. That’s two of the most boring things you could do in nyc. Also I said “look UP at the buildings,” implying you’re a hick, which you are. You ever been pre 9/11?

You’re not sure how I can say that? I’m born and raised there. People like you ruined my city. And now you want to act a hot shot and shit on smaller cities because you go to midtown once a month to do boring shit. You probably goto Manhattan and look up at the buildings.

So they’re some crazy trumpers (obviously) but apparently a few years back they got arrested and raided for having a large cache of pistols and automatic weapons. One positive thing is I’m sure they’re keeping the property taxes down in that area.

LCI should be dismantled. It’s a total waste of tax dollars. If tenants really want to make change, the best way is go to your bank and open an escrow account. Dump your rent money there until your slumlord fixes the problem. Rinse and repeat. If they don’t fix it to a satisfactory standard, keep it in the escrow account. If they don’t fix the problem by the time you move out, that’s free rent baby!

I mean you could, but it’d prolly be in a shittier neighborhood where a former addict would face temptations. I remember when my friend got out of prison, I would drive him to his methadone dose appointments and there would be guys waiting on the curb right outside the place trying to sell him dope.

Yes way more. Durham is spread out. Durham to me seemed much more gentrified than new haven too, although that’s hitting new haven pretty hard recently. CT is a really small state so everything is pretty close. If I have to drive 45 min soMewhere i piss and moan about it. Traffic is pretty horrible in both cities.

I live in new haven, my older brother lives in Durham. He came to visit recently. His two big takeaways were 1. Everything is waaaaay more expensive in CT (not so much rent/bills/mortgages cuz those are actually pretty similar between the two cities, he’s talking more like food and recreation) and 2. He likes the people in new haven way more than Durham. He thinks people in Durham are boring and stuck up. He also thought people in new haven are much more accessible, like you can meet a big time politico drinking at a bar downtown and strike up a convo and become friends up here. He said that kinda stuff doesn’t happen down there. The whole duke/yale thing is very similar, but I think the big difference is you’ll meet lots of 30-something’s who are graduate students and work for Yale who are cool and down to earth, whereas my brother says most people involved in duke are stuck up and boring. Long story short, I think if you’ve lived in Durham, new haven will seem pretty familiar and easily adaptable to, and there’s a good chance you will prolly like it better.

Yea we looked at that one too. Two of the teachers couldn’t even pretend to like the kids in their class during our 15 minute visit. Can only imagine the fuckry that goes on there.

Long story short, no. It’s cheaper/easier for one of you to stay home or get a job at night like I did. Good news is if you send your kids to public school they have free aftercare.
