Reply to Is Abbott Elementary overrated? by ShEditor83
It’s an excellent network sitcom. It’s up there with Modern Family and the like. But like any network sitcom it can’t compete with modern comedy shows with no limitations (language, ad breaks, length and number of episodes etc) like Barry, Ted Lasso, Hacks, Mythic Quest, Only Murders in the Building, etc.

Yeah I usually refer to these type of favorite characters as the most interesting or most complex. Homelander is a great example. Definitely my favorite character to watch on The Boys.

Severance is still filming. Succession comes out in March.

Surprised they don’t think Shrinking will be nominated for Best Comedy? And that Abbott Elementary will basically sweep all its categories when competing against Ted Lasso, Barry, and the final season of Maisel?
I also think its strange that The White Lotus will be in drama and not comedy. Its tone is very much like Barry which competes in comedy.

These aren’t actual nominations. Just predictions from Variety.

I low-key assumed this was cancelled after the CW was gutted due to the WarnerMedia Discovery meger/Gunn and Safran rebooting all DC content. Glad to hear we’ll at least get one more season. Hopefully they write it as a series finale in case it gets cancelled.

I think just the fact that supposedly the main show is all stuff that has happened in the past and is being told to the audience in present day limits the writers. Hopefully they had a full outline of the show when they started writing it like Ted Lasso did, otherwise I predict it will start to fall apart in later seasons.
But for now I really enjoyed the first two seasons and I don’t hate the uncle and nephew in present day specifically-I just am frustrated with how the story structure can be limiting in general.

This! So many shows on Netflix could use a final wrap up season meanwhile this show works so well as a limited series! The only way I see >!the two leads being connected in another plot is if it has something to do with national cybersecurity. And even then most of the other leads are dead or presumably in jail though I’m sure they’ll figure out a way to shoehorn in the living characters.!<
To be honest >!I was pleasantly surprised they didn’t leave what happened with his dad as a cliffhanger for a potential S2. A tiny cliffhanger like that wouldn’t have been so bad but I majorly respect them for not leaving any threads in case they got cancelled. But of course now they have to make up an entirely new story. But hey that basically worked for The White Lotus S2 so why not?!<
