Excuse me, but some idiots online told me that blue states and cities are a mess and don't know how to function, so this must be a lie!

Depends on the job you are looking for but most can be found on any specific campus' website. Amherst has a "yellow sheet" that's posted weekly with open positions like this:
https://umass.sharepoint.com/:b:/s/humres/EX8-9naqTe5KlHJdGfCdA10BBmrwpqH0qwmf2Ln6rCP1Yg?e=bFpHJ2
Requirements will vary depending on the position. There should be instructions for applying if you find something that looks interesting to you. Best of luck!

If you get a job within the UMass system those are almost all union jobs. I've been in the system for ten years in two different unions (AFSCME and now USA/MTA) because of position changes.

I don't expect urban infrastructure in my rural town and don't want it. I expect my local taxes to pay for what my town needs, which it does. Our roads are well maintained throughout the seasons and the school system is highly rated and desirable for young families.

Maybe in the city 15 units per acre isn't a big deal, but I chose to live in a more rural Western MA town because I want an acre for myself. Call me a NIMBY all you want, I don't want to live in a densely populated neighborhood.

We bought in the Turkey Hill area and the only reason we had our offer accepted was because the house needed new windows and some siding replaced, plus the interior was very lived in, but I saw past it all easily. We went with the adage of, "buy the worst house in the best neighborhood" and have absolutely no complaints because we never would have been able to afford a turnkey home anywhere in town.

It's very far from a swamp. Buying a house in Belchertown these days is not cheap because it has become one of the most sought after towns in Hampshire County for young families.

Erving and Orange should not be compared at all. Erving is a really nice little town with a great elemtary school and almost no property taxes due to the money made from the Northfield Mountain Project. Orange though... Orange has always been a shithole.

Maybe 20 years ago. There is so much new construction in Belchertown now and the school system is very highly rated. We moved there last fall and couldn't be happier, it's a beautiful town.

My wife and I are slightly above that median number. We are in Western MA, had our "starter" home in Chicopee for five years and sold that last summer for our "forever" home in Belchertown. Inventory options are certainly better for median household families in this part of the state.

I will also strongly advocate for Western MA and the Pioneer Valley. It's a wonderful area with a lot of really great communities and school districts, especially if OP is looking for a small town connection with their students.

Came here to recommend the Quabbin and Old Deerfield as well! Sugarloaf Mountain and Yankee Candle are other great options while in Deerfield. Round out the day with dinner in Northampton for the full Western MA experience.

Montague (Turners Falls) is no better or worse than Greenfield really. I grew up there, lived in town for 26 years, and if I was to move back it would be Montague over Greenfield. The Patch isn't really bad at all, just lower income older housing, especially compared to Leyden Woods or Oak Courts in Greenfield which are far worse than anywhere in TF.

Honestly didn't know it was also 413. I've always thought of Worcester county as central MA; Franklin/Hampshire/Hampden county as Western MA, and the Berkshires are the Berkshires. Probably silly as the Berkshires are the western most part of the state but in my head it makes sense.
