'Murderer' and 'rapist' aren't conditions that human beings are innately born with it. Terrible societal ills produce 99% of these cases. Rather than put resources toward curing and preventing those ills, you'd rather throw money into the bottomless, idiotic, demonic pit of police & prisons -- which only serve to further entrench and intensify society's ills.

You're missing the biggest thing, which is that the city needs to force landlords to rent the 100,000 rent stabilized apartments which they're having sit empty. And if they don't comply, the units will be taken over by the state.
This is what Barcelona did just a couple years ago to great effect.

If you want to fix it up for use by the current occupants, then talk about that. But if you want to just displace the tenants & make the building unaffordable to everybody, then just own up to the fact that you're a gentrifier.

You are either a landlord and know why it's bullsh!t to claim those units are being kept empty for good reason (while 90,000 homeless languish in this city), or you're simply a fool. Take your pick.

Yes. In 2018 it was 250 thousand, but the number of empty apartments have drastically increased after the pandemic. Corporate landlords, and even many small landlords, are to blame -- and so is the government for being in the pocket of the real estate lobby and doing nothing about this. https://www.6sqft.com/nearly-250000-nyc-rental-apartments-sit-vacant/
Landlords and finance bros can thumbs down posts spitting truth all they like, they're not fooling anybody.

This is a scam and the OP is 🗑️. There are 450,000 empty apartments in NYC, and you clowns are still talking about building new, expensive housing (that will remain empty) as if it's will help anything.
