While it's certainly not exactly the same, if you're a fan of Moxie's flavor profile, and like to consume adult beverages, a dark amaro (like Ramazzotti) and soda is a great way to go.
smkmn13 t1_ja00u0h wrote
Fun trivia - the soda actually predates the word moxie, meaning determination or nerve - the word is based on the character required to drink the, uhh, "soda."

They do, it just takes forevvvver if you've got more than one or two cars waiting. A light would be far more efficient (although perhaps more dangerous? Don't know).

Cool tunnel, but I hate waiting if there's a line of cars. I feel like they could add a retro-looking stoplight (lol) and not lose the charm

I'd like to read a news story about this that isn't written by someone who heads a nonprofit specifically designed to support the "Free Range Kids" movement, but this story sounds really, really stupid and both the cops and social workers look really, really bad. Yikes.

Did you read the article?
"To help combat the student chronic absenteeism crisis, the state launched a new program called the Learner Engagement and Attendance Program (LEAP) in April 2021 for 15 Connecticut school districts"
"The report claims that “attendance rates increased by about four percentage points in the month immediately following the first LEAP visit” and highlighted Hartford Public Schools for attendance rates increasing by “nearly 30 percentage points in the six months or more after treatment.”"

You might be right, but this is an article about chronic absenteeism - treating attendance issues as a "bad behavior" misses the point.
smkmn13 t1_j6nagc7 wrote
The 10% threshold for "chronic absenteeism" is actually pretty low. That's not to say we shouldn't be working on kids getting to school when they can, but we're also doing a better job now than pre-COVID on keeping kids home when they're not feeling well, combined with multiple illnesses hitting hard after a couple years of relative isolation.

Yes and no - this bill would allow cyclists to treat stop signs as yield signs, and red lights as stop signs. You can read more here.

I'm sure it varies by city, but there's a plan in Manchester to put in fully protected bike lane throughout downtown.

This is better for drivers too - I don't want to sit there and wait for a biker to fully stop and start again when they beat me to a 4way stop by a half-a-second. And while I would do it, some drivers wouldn't, which is unpredictable and unsafe.

The "BuT BiKeS sHoUlD aCt lIkE cArS" crowd always seems to forget that traffic laws are about safety, and there's a difference between a vehicle that weighs a couple thousand pounds and a couple hundred (including the rider).

Not that I know of, but that's sort of my point - if there are laws that are almost never enforced, it creates opportunities for arbitrary policing decisions, and I don't think that's a good thing.

It also appears to be formally legalizing something that everybody does already, which means less arbitrary policing, which (imo) is always a good thing.

For those that don't know, the Idaho stop allows bikers to treat stop signs as yield signs
(I didn't know and just googled it myself, so I thought I'd save someone a click or two).

I don't see how a system where you have to grade a candidate (as opposed to rank them) is "simpler," but I don't know much about STAR so I'll have to read up on it - I'm all for changing what we have now to any more well-thought-out alternative!
