Mystic for 3 days, for sure. Lots of great food and things to do! Easy to get an uber to the casinos if that’s your thing. On day 4 you can uber to new LOndon easily and take the train to New Haven. Eat some pizza, see Yale, go to the Peabody, stay a few days. Then can go to NYC or Boston from there. These places are touristy from CT standards but not in general. Other nice places along the train lines are Old Saybrook, Kingston RI, and Madison I believe. It’s very hard without a car, each city has something to offer but Ubers can be unreliable here (most won’t drive more than 30min away) and most of the best spots require driving. If you do Mystic also check out Bluff Point in Groton for a nice hike on the water near a tiny regional airport

Seriously!! These comments are perplexing. Tailgating someone in bad conditions is unsafe no matter the car but especially if it’s a shitbox. These are the same jerks that will complain they couldn’t get their Dunkin’s because staff didn’t show up in a snow storm but then also complain about underpaid Dunkin staff not being able to afford new tires or better cars. They just want to whine. I have a snow capable car with good tires and I drive slow on bad roads because it’s safe. The tailgaters in their huge trucks do nothing but make me more nervous. It’s a lose lose for everyone.

Oh awesome, thank you!!! We have a LOT of regional cuisine out here, not sure why we’re so underrepresented on that list.

Cool!! I notice it is heavily skewed towards certain parts of CT. Any recs for eastern CT that are missing from the list?

Old Saybrook is walkable, pretty, and has a direct train to nyc. Plenty of doctors and such in town and close by as well. Also easy to get to Yale hospital via train or Uber if needed.

It was better before! It wasn’t great but it was New England drivers, I grew up with it and could manage. WAY worse after COVID! I stopped driving on highways after that, and get tail gating assholes on the backroads instead now. It’s so much worse

Couldn’t put it better myself! I grew up driving here but man, COVID really made driving awful. But it is beautiful and scenic, and almost no one knows how nice it is ;)

I went to school there too and agree with this! I never went to any drug fueled parties when I went but a few years later my friends brother attended and he’s still in and out of rehab 20 years later. School was filled with coke by then.
Parking lot is chock full of luxury cars- as a regular kid it felt very weird to see so many expensive cars. My folks would never have bought me a freaking Mercedes at 16! I remember one girl got a Porsche and totaled it within a week. It was a very weird place to be after starting out in public school!
That being said, it challenged me in ways public school didn’t. There was too much free time and I got lazy, there is rarely free time at KO and the expectations are high (both from peers and teachers) so it helps promote good habits and work ethic.
I debated sending my kid to a prep school but I’ve heard so much about substance abuse and bullying since I left I’m not sure it’s the right call.
Another consideration is cost! When I went it was $20k per year but other activities were easily another $1k. Can’t imagine how much it is nowadays! Not sure it’s worth it anymore

Passport in Stamford is only for rush jobs and honestly they do a good job getting things done same day. For future reference tho I’m in the same area and taking an Amtrak to Stamford is quick and easy from New LOndon :)

I have a list of hole in the walls in Norwich in my post history! Second the tin peddler. There’s a lot of good spots in Groton too: Mananas, Paul’s Pasta, Koto, Chester, the pho place next to Chesters

There’s a very pretty backroad drive (at least in fall) if you go from Salem to niantic areas
