The author does have a point there. They have been slowly transitioning our neighborhood to LED street lights. It feels out of place, as if they are turning street corners into tiny prison yards. Sure, it lights the ground, but it's essentially spot lighting, not general area lighting. So rather than making a street feel lit up, it's more like aliens trying to beam up a sample of pavement or yard every 20 feet or so.

Tell the big truck people rollin' coal by glorifying fossil fuels they are helping destroy towns and lives, I assume they wouldn't believe you or perhaps not even care unless a tornado swept their own truck up into the clouds and hurtled it into the gulf.

Well it can be either just like any game. the question is whether these tournaments are going to just pretend AI isn't a factor or have some kind of checks in place to ensure the humans aren't getting an AI assist. In lieu of physical presence- two in-person players could be searched and made to wear a special tournament uniform, or something- it could be impossible to prevent.

Actually a lot of sci-fi from the 50s on describes interactions with computers in a similar way. "feed the computer all the information we have on X." then they have the computer spit out some conclusion or prediction. and they answer in clear human speech, of course.

We are at that point in history, right now, when a major motif from science fiction is coming true.

I don't get this sentiment. If you feel this way about it, you're not going to buy one. If two other people use it, that's their business and they are going to use it in their own private way. I doubt if they can force someone to watch them using it. How is it vulgar if it's mutual and private? Is pooping in private vulgar too?

I'm looking at it and thinking fine, go to town. What difference does it make in my life? none whatsoever.

agreed. I check out the new layout occasionally and encounter multiple issues within minutes. From a usability standpoint it's a nightmare. Clearly they feel the pressure to compete in the doomscrolling marketplace, but If they force reddit to be just another tiktok, it will lose what makes it unique and worth going to. Searching the web with the term "reddit" is probably their biggest marketing coup rn, if they bust up communities they will be losing massive value.

And the groundwork has already been laid on social media for unwitting citizens to sympathize with these hostile powers. just wait until your grandma is absolutely convinced something is real not because a foxnews asshole said so- because she has "proof."

Neil Young- Live Rust convinced me I ought to be trying to see Neil live, which I did, multiple times. the best was when he toured with Sonic Youth and Social Distortion- the garagey hard rock of Crazy Horse was in vogue in the 90s so it was a killer show.

I think it might have something to do with the personnel changes. Personally I prefer the Machine Head lineup with Ian Gillan, and other permutations just haven't stuck like that one for me- though the brief lineup with Tommy Bolin was pretty amazing. Led Zep was always the same, imo kept getting better and more interesting, then called it quits when Bonzo died, so all their material, while not interchangable, is on the table to enjoy. DP has changed over time and a random DP album just doesn't have the same appeal as their best (even if each does have something to recommend it).

They are?

I'd nominate Julia Holter. She's classically trained and her songs reference Greek tragedy and authors like Virginia Woolf, and every album of hers has an underlying concept.
