One thing I think people keep underestimating with new transformative technologies like this is how they will change people’s relationships with their environments, their peers, and their identities. Rather than trying to smooth pre-existing fault lines, AI seems more likely to create new additional ones as well, and perhaps create need for new public to private social contracts altogether. The politics of that is likely to be chaotic.

How many countries care enough about Tunisia to plot against it. Maybe two?

It’s not just about Russia though. There’s a developing coalition of autocratic states supporting each other. We need to take that seriously and develop diplomatic countermeasures

A conventional war would be bad enough. Mainly my worry is a simultaneous war in Europe and Asia, or another war following an intensified rivalry with all the involved parties. There’s no backing down from aggression here, but even if we win that, it doesn’t mean it won’t suck.

The world is in a really shitty spot right now. If a match is lit in the wrong part of the world, WW3 could start. That’s where this war on Ukraine has brought us.

And it’ll probably be worth it if they get a championship. Nothing guaranteed about that though

It’s probably dumb to build infrastructure in Ukraine now as much as I loathe Russian aggression

Protectionism doesn’t speed economic progress, more the opposite. Nor are imports the bane you are making them out to be. The US has more imports than just about any country - still plenty of growth
