I submitted a request to switch to Constellation over a week ago when their rate was 13.something. It went through and I got a confirmation, but days ago I get an email from Constellation saying there was a problem and to call them.

I call Constellation, they say they aren’t sure but they can offer to sign me up at a now higher rate in the 17s.

Eversource says there was not a switch hold on my account or a WPP hold. Now I have to reach out to Cosmtellation again and argue to give me the rate I signed up for and received a confirmation for since there is evidently no problem.

Beware people who think they are in the clear, the then-incredible rate of 13 is no longer available and you’re going to find yourself on the receiving ends of an Eiffel tower.

####EDIT:

I spoke to a representative at Constellation again, she explicitly stated that Eversource placed a hold on supplier transfers following the announcement of the rate hike allowing third party generators to increase their rates in turn. Yes, we are being cucked.

I was initially offered a rate of 17 something but after pressing the issue she was able to offer 15.76. I have filed a complaint with PURA on what I believe is purposeful obstruction. I also sent a letter, fruitless it may be, to my representatives.

####EDIT 2:

Judging from some comments below, some have heard from Constellation that it was an internal error that was causing the issues: I reached out to Constellation using the online chat and got this:

“This rejection was due to an internal error. Your enrollment will be automatically resubmitted, you will be getting the same rate of 13.2c/kwh for 36 months.”

In addition, I received a response to my complaint to the Attorney General’s office that had an update to my PURA and Eversource complaint as to the exact reason for the rejections we received:

> In response to the inquiry from asspirate420, we received this from PURA earlier. The enrollment from Constellation was submitted electronically however when submitted the next cycle rate did not match the billing rate therefore the electronic transaction was rejected.

So I will concede that Eversource and Constellation were not seemingly colluding in an attempt to split roast me after all.

Bait and switch Scam ?

We are happy you selected Constellation as your energy supplier and we've already notified your local utility that you have enrolled with us. They have advised us that they can't make the switch because there is an error or a question in our records.

Not to worry! It could be something as simple as a wrong address or incorrect spelling of your name.

If you call us right away at 855-465-1244, we can make the adjustment and get you on your way to becoming a Constellation customer.

Sincerely,

Constellation Customer Care

I refused to accept because I was emailed a contract at the lower rate when I signed up, and I expect that contract to be honored.

Steady_Habits_CT t1_iy4sxhp wrote

Rather than argue with Bob about whether you deserve a 13 cent, 15 cent, or 17 cent rate from Constellation, the bigger question is how can Constellation offer a 13 to 17 cent rate while Eversource is allowed to double its rate to 24 cents!

Bob Duff and the rest of the leadership of the CGA don't care. If they did care, they could have addressed these issues years ago. It hasn't put their reelection at risk, which is all they really care about.

And go ahead--set the AG or PURA on a path to fine Constellation and you may end up chasing one of the few remaining power suppliers with competitive rates out of CT! It is thinking such as that which leads to digging CT into an even deeper hole.

4

hamhead t1_iy6scsn wrote

>how can Constellation offer a 13 to 17 cent rate while Eversource is allowed to double its rate to 24 cents!

I'm not really sure I understand this question. It's an open market. Eversource has a somewhat higher rate than alternative suppliers because lazy and/or risk adverse people will stick with them. They maintain an X% buffer, constellation cuts it finer. That's the entire point of a [sort of] deregulated marketplace.

3

Steady_Habits_CT t1_iy804ks wrote

It's not an "open market". In an open market, suppliers can enter at will, which results in lower prices as capacity expands. However, one cannot become a supplier of electricity at will in CT because the state has control over one's ability to build a power generation facility. If it were a truly open market, power costs would be materially lower.

Note that in the "fake" competitive market implemented in CT about two decades ago, the number of suppliers has DECREASED over the years! So much for a "competitive" market. "Competition" managed by state control, is NOT a free market. That is why states such as China and Russia are not truly capitalistic--many capital allocation decisions are regulated, if not controlled, by the state. The same is true of the electrical power mkt in CT.

Our power costs are high because of an ongoing series of boneheaded decisions by politicians over the years that continue to this day. It's nice to pin the blame on Eversource, but Eversource has been enabled by CT politicians.

1

hamhead t1_iy80be5 wrote

In the context in which your question was asked, it’s an open market. You asked why, given the same generation bundle, some offer lower prices than others. The answer is that they can price as desired since it’s an open market, for that segment of the vertical market.

From what I have read, eversource is not allowed to put a hold on it, they are required to process it typically within two business days.

The language in the contract does say it is subject to eversource processing it for it to go in to effect for me, with an effective date of 11/27/22.

What is the point if eversource can just refuse to process requests?

I would recommend downloading and saving a copy of the contract as a PDF instead of relying on just the confirmation emails.

  • Typically, your switch will be completed within one to two billing cycles, depending on your utility.

We made the switch on 11/18 with our UI bill month ending on 11/21. I'm not expecting to hear back until at least the end of December. This jives well with the new rates coming into place.
