I wonder what politically connected owners paid for getting the licenses.

Yeah they do. I just made a run to Michigan last night where they have ounces for $75 each! Used to pay about $200 from the weedman. Not to mention all the other goodies like edibles and concentrates.

I wondered the same thing. I was in NYC in May, seeing these sketchy pop-up stands with huge bags of weed rolling and selling blunts in tourist-heavy areas, but when I went to a "smoke" shop there was no THC to be found. Was pretty confused since I knew it had been legal for a while.

Oh hallelujah! Hopefully some will open soon upstate so I don’t have to ration whatever gummies I get in MA when I visit my mom.

Wait, so were those food truck dispensaries I bought weed out of a few years ago not legal?

For all the "what took so long crowd" it was a combo of many things; groups suing to block it, legislative agreement on where the money is going, agreement on how permits would work (how many in what areas), who would get these permits, all the rules associated with growing and distributing...and the many, many, many interested regulatory parties who got involved so they could get their wheels greased and make sure they're getting in on the action.

I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. We have over 50 dispensaries, all of which have home delivery. I was surprised when I was in NYC last year that it had 0. There is a weed cafe that is supposed to be opening next year.

New York didn't have any recreational dispensaries?

I visited NYC in November 2019 and was walking with friends a block away from Times Square. We walked into a dispensary and bought some pre rolls. I wasn’t ID’d and no one asked for my age.

Was this not a legal dispensary?

fluxtable t1_j2ax12f wrote

I'm very particular. I like indica dominant 20% THC with a good flavor. Usually end up circling around OG strains.

My neighborhood dispensary in Portland is 4 blocks and always has an option for me. 8ths range from $10-14 with my neighborhood discount. They give my dog treats too.

Legal market > black market all day.

NYC at least had a pretty convoluted application process where the city couldn't decide what interest group to favor as well. The entire process was just generally fucked. Also doesn't help that Cuomo got kicked in the middle of the push

Of course, the Indians have been selling on their tribal lands for months because they don't play the stupid politics. And after all this foot dragging they'll be wondering why the black market doesn't go away.

Long time coming! So tired of sketchy delivery services, and haven't bothered with any of the fake 'weed vans' selling unregulated crap.

I just want the same experience I get when I visit California, where everything is exactly what it says on the label in a friendly environment

The law stated 9 months after the first dispensary opened…so September 2023 if you want to go strictly by the law. In reality many people have been growing around me and openly doing so; neither the sheriffs or the state troopers give a damn about small operations, if there was a commercial size grow however I bet they would be asking for permits and such.

Green_Justice710 t1_j2cth32 wrote

All the stuff that is totally irrelevant to a healthy, vibrant market imo. If you reduce supply in the legal market (which will happen when everything needs a permit), than you will inevitably increase demand in the black market. Wish these lawmakers would read an Economics textbook.

Delta 8 itself is found in small amounts in "normal" weed. It's also just conveniently converted from CBD with a process of basically dissolving the isolate in a solvent and heating it. Obviously there's some room for error but we also have solvent processes for all major oil extracts. Delta 8 is not sketchy, the companies selling it grey market without any sort of testing are.

The most recent vote on the MORE act saw

217 D- YEA

202 R- NAY

When it is voted on in the Senate it will be fillibustered for sure...by the R.

And it will see

48 D- YEA

48 R- NAY

It will fail.

But if it did not fail (as in: if some R's defect from the republicult hive mind...which they won't...but if they did), then when the bill got to Biden's desk he would sign it.

It is not the Democrats or the President stopping the legalization of Weed.

I work at a dispensary in Denver and we have ounces as low as 79. Much cheaper for shake or popcorn. Most expensive is 250 but it's always on sale for cheaper than that. And it's great quality. Love this state.

Yep that's why we have the $40 ounces. This is also aided by lax growing laws that haven't really restricted the amount of growers available so we have a lot of surplus. The NY legislature can mess with this but prices should still come down over time.
