I'm a bit tired of this as well. It's the same questions and the same answers over and over. The current generation isn't new any more, people should have decided already. On top of that, why not simply read though all the other answered threads first?

It gets even simpler. How about a supposed gamer being knowledgeable enough to know about all the new consoles? I mean it's not hard lol you can just go and play them to try them ffs

So which console do you recommend I get?

I'm not disagreeing that the question is asked too much, but I will point out that being a "gamer" is not a prerequisite to buying a console. Maybe they're interested in trying videogames for their first time (at least playing seriously). Maybe it's as a surprise present for someone else. That's getting into the realm of gatekeeping, which is the worst type of hobbyist. Why was the Wii such a massive success? Because it managed to appeal to people who would not even remotely identify as "gamers," and the Wii was a fantastic console.

I get it, I'm super passionate and have a lot of interests myself, but everyone starts somewhere, both in terms of knowledge as well as product. In addition to gaming, I'm into audio and watches, and seeing people trying to get interested in hobbies just sucks.

I think this touches on a bigger Reddit problem where people will just post basic questions without trying to do any research whatsoever (forget Reddit-specific research, I mean research period). I do agree that that is frustrating and is a mindset/behavior that should be discouraged in-general.

Imagine the nerve of people asking about consoles on a console discussion forum.

The last part of your comment, that's the truth right there. These aren't first time gamers, these are people too lazy to think for themselves. It's a common problem with kids these days. It's not that videogames is spoiling them, it's the Internet is spoiling them. Lazy kids.

I agree, tho I have this problem with fomo (fear of missing out) I have a series s and a mid-range gaming PC, I used to own a ps5 twice actually, the first time I bought it I loved it but realiced I could't afford it so I sold it. A mounth later, where God of War ragnarok came out I could't help myself I needed to play it, so bought the ps5 again, completed the game, then with heavy heart sold my ps5 again, because I could't afford it. That was like two month ago now, now I wanna play Wo long so badly on ps5 because ind the end I prefer the ps5 to play on but the economy would allow it.

thefjordster t1_jb9kexh wrote

I mean it is as simple as that really. People who want to discuss consoles come here to discuss consoles. Sometimes those people know very little about consoles.

If you know so much why bother being on here at all.

Lol man I was like this with the ps4 and the previous god of war game lol no lie. You see, all you gotta do is go out there and play the games man, try the consoles. Gamers should be able to decide what gaming system/systems they want

Dude, you can scroll down and find the exact same discussion over 100 times. This isn't a reddit page for people to constantly ask which console to buy. It's a gaming page to discuss and share ALL things gaming. This is my point. I do know so much, but I don't come here for game console knowledge because I'm a gamer and I know these things already lol

Year, thanks. Funny you went the way with the ps4 version of GoW. but I have tried the ps5 now, I'm just trying not to buy it again because of Wo long amoung other titel's it's so damn hard, but in the end, I don't know what I'm gonna do regarding the ps5.

AudioMan612 t1_jb9nedm wrote

Yeah, that's definitely a significant part of it. There is definitely an amount of laziness.

I think another part of it might be that people are so used to online shopping now, especially those who are younger, that the idea of going to a brick and mortar store to demo something before purchasing doesn't even enter their minds. I often find myself recommending people demo audio equipment before purchasing if they are planning to invest a decent amount of money (something insanely easy to do in that hobby).

Yeah bro, totally same thing but with ps4 lol. Well, if it was me, I'd save my ass off for a ps5, or find a quick cash way to get it. Thats if I was you. Personally, I love my xbox series x, I don't need anything else. I do want gow though lol

GamerTMTDK t1_jb9p12d wrote

Thanks for your recommendation, I'll think about what you said, I can understand you are happy with your xbox series X, it's a awesome consol I have the series s, with I'm also happy about, although I miss those 60fps in most games on it, I have also played with the thought of buying the series x and then totally drop the ps5 but in the long run, I don't think I can do that.

No that's fair, and I want to calm thus debate or whatever it is down a bit because I think it's getting a bit too heated. I literally saw the same post so many times, I just had to say something lol sorry

I'm from England. I had an xbox and really was pissed off that god of war was so good and its ps4 only so I thought fuck it and bought one. Then, like you I realised I couldn't afford it, and couldn't wait for gow to be released (they put it back one year) so I sold it lol

Okay, I'm from Denmark, I've been to Playstation since ps1, and have had them all up until ps5 twice now, so dump. But I gotta say xbox have been turing things around with their exclusive and game pass so much value right there, and I should just turn to xbox to save all that money on games, but since I've been to Playstation since ps1 it's hard for me to just shot the door and leave it behind, because I feel like everything on Playstation cost something.

In answer to your question;

Step 1 - Decide to buy a console.

Step 2 - Google consoles

Step 3 - read thousands upon thousands of reviews, with more or less a 50/50 split on which you should get

"Hmm, Google isn't helping me much. Maybe I should get the opinion of real people, preferably within a gaming community, to see what personal anecdotal evidence people have for one console versus the other. I hear Reddit is a good place for such discussions!"

Step 4 - open Reddit, with little idea of what community to reach out to you just search for "consoles".

"Oh look! An entire subreddit dedicated to Consoles! They'll help me!"

Step 5 - Write post hoping for genuine feedback and help.

Step 6 - ignore the "BuT I KnOw AbOuT CoNsOlEs AlReAdY WhY DoNt YoU?!?!" comments.

Step 7 - Review answers to post, make decision on which console to buy.

Not a difficult process to understand, atleast for most of us.

Yeah bro, I feel you. One day, I hope there's just one console, with everything we love on it. I know there's pc but I'm a believer in consoles for gaming, pcs for everything else lol

Bit harsh, I mean I did call one guy an idiot, but he said something stupid so he deserved it. Honestly, I'm not raging, I was just making a point. I should've made it more subtle, that's true, so my bad

Raaiyu t1_jb9yvwp wrote

It's not a difficult process to understand, but it's clearly a process that doesn't work. There is no substitute for going out and actually trying these consoles out. You can't just sit at home googling everything in the hope you'll find your answer, because like you said yourself, there's just so many posts, and the end result will still be a 50/50 lol. People need to stop relying on Google, and actually go outside and try things for themselves.

GamerTMTDK t1_jba1s71 wrote

Well said. And year one platform for all gaming would be nice for sure. Did you own a ps5 now? I think pc is good for alot of things gaming included, with settings that can be ajusted and a garanti for those 60fps the downside is pc has a stop wall (don't know what to call it) for not running games as good because of the specs, where a consol can run all games.

2

Raaiyu t1_jbaq6de wrote

Yeah, plus a good pc is just too expensive, and messing around with all the maintenence and programs and all that shit, when all I really wanna do is just play a game lol. I never owned a ps5, but let me tell you, if I get the spare money to buy one, I'll definitely do it, just for gow lol
