According to this sub there are no good bagels in JC

This is the correct answer. It’s not actually hard to find a good bagel outside of JC.

Very true. I used to get j and j bagels in cliffside park and when I moved to JC no bagel I’ve had came even close. One would think we’d have a half decent bagel shop and a Trader Joe’s by now in a city right outside of Manhattan…

This is correct. There are NO GOOD bagels in JC. Subpar, due in a pinch bagels, sure. The sheep that line up at Wonder Bagels, makes me lol so hard it's crazy. I've seriously had better bagels in a gas station.

Agreed. The walk to JPs in Hoboken is worth it.

Agreed, but there are a lot of places I haven't tried yet.

Also, Cafe Alyce has great coffee.

Kind of excited to try the bagel place that is opening in the house next to Raine and River. I think it's called City Bagels? Anyone know when it opens?

So far I haven't found a knock-your-socks-off bagel (in terms of just the bread, not necessarily an entire bagel sandwich) in JC. Yet I retain hope...

Edit to add: city bagels is at 301 Grove St. And it looks like Google maps is saying they're open. I haven't tried them yet but it looks like they're hyping a quality bagel on their website so might be worth it to try!

Best coffee is Cafe Esme near Hamilton Park. I moved out of the area down to DC a few months ago, and I miss Esme every day. Nothing down here compares.

The simit (not really a bagel but they market it as a Turkish version) plate and coffee at Dream Vista are solid (cannot speak to the specialty lattes because they’re just not for me). The spinach borek and other pastries are great too.

Recently discovered the coffee at Into The Void on Brunswick Street. Excellent!

For coffee: Definitely seconding Into the Void especially for their on-tap cold brew and generally great vibes. They do a lot of the community between block parties and supporting other local businesses.

I’m also partial to Lackawanna on Grove but their consistency is hit or miss with some staff changeovers recently. Their Turkish Latte is always a treat though.

I too am eagerly awaiting the opening of City Bagel .

Cagiano's on Eerie St. has really good bagels. If you're already in that area, O'Kafe is right across the street and has great coffee and a bunch of unique lattes.

PrkUp Coffee in Paulus Hook has good bagels, word on the street is they get them from Brooklyn but 🤷🏻‍♂️. Pastries from Balthazar as well. Coffee is not too shabby either.
