It's got just about equal crime to someplace like Houston, or Atlanta.
There are plenty of parts of the city that are nice, and some that are not.

Make sure to take a good look around, the areas nearby go anywhere from 'strip mall central' to 'cul-de-sacs' to walkable little downtown and with your budget you should be able to pick which type you want pretty easily.

I was coming here to say this. After a decades of "NYC is dying, people are fleeing" we got one year of, "Oops, our bad, NYC gained a lot of population." Then, right back to "NYC is dying!"

At 20 months? Pretty much anything. Ride the light rail, take a ferry or two. Science Center is good, there are a few children's play center arounds, but the playground at Newport Green is cool, with a nice view of the city.
Go look at birds or in the wild area of Lincoln Park., or just kick a ball around with her.

Does JSQ not exist? It took a while for development to move outside of DT, because DT was a bunch of parking lots that were easy to develop.

The sad fact is that, no matter what JC does, it can't fix a regional housing shortage. JC can't fix the problem, only nibble at the edges a bit.

Maybe so, but could you explain a mechanism by which building less stuff and having less homes available in an area of high demand makes them more affordable?

Not even just total tax burden, total tax burden by income bracket varies greatly. Most income levels in CA have lower taxes than in Texas.

Literacy rate can be a weird stat, because if you are an a immigrant whose first language isn't English, you're likely considered illiterate.
Which may be a very different situation than someone who is just generally illiterate.

Fulop has done a decent job of finding ways to get some more park space in the city.

They are proposing to build up the area that is currently behind the fence and not in use
It's amazing to be this angry and aggressive about something you apparently haven't spent 5 min looking at.
Edit: to be clear. It is the timing and motives and potential conflicts of interestand ownership that suck about this.
The golf course bit no longer exists (I suppose you could argue it will come back). The area proposed to be developed here, is the exact same area the DEP would be proposing to develop (albeit it is likely with a lot more stuff/ buildings).

Almost the entire list of points was, "price tag, lobbying, funding, remediation."
With price, lobbying and funding being for the remediation.
My one line addresses most all of them by pointing out a big reason it was so difficult to get funding for remediation is Friends of LSP lobbying against it because it has almost always come in the context of them getting ball fields.
You may think that they were correct, because of environmental concerns, or just different priorities. That's OK.
It doesn't change that a lot of people want the recreation and access that was originally in the plan, and it is not surprising that development interests would capitalize on the complete lack of anything being done for 45 years.

I actually agree. What I could use a whole lot less of is the insulation that they are up to something nefarious.
You can buy, or not buy, whatever products you want and advocate for others to make the same choice. That's how our system works.
You can also do it without being abusive dicks to a company that seems to have made an honest mistake.

Funny you mention, "fighting, I imagine, versus the types of lawyers only a Fineman can afford."
Turns out some of the biggest obstruction over the years has been from Friends of LSP, who very much did not want it cleaned if cleaning it meant a ball field would be put in.
In any case, the point stands, if after 50 years the government can't get the funding done, then it makes sense that private interests would get some traction.

The plan leaves all the existing accessible open space. It doesn't mean it's a good plan, but that's the plan.
Also, no one is charging access to go for a walk. There's plenty to hate about what is being proposed without making shit up.
Dumbass indeed.

The commute is so easy to NYC though, that I wouldn't consider this much of an issue. Not many places you can live where you are closer to more jobs within a 30-40 min commute than Newark, other than living in NYC.
