I can't believe im saying this but JC Penny has some nice and affordable 'office' wear. The Evan Picone stuff is not frumpy, always on sale, and lasts a long time.

I am in my 30's and never in my wildest dreams would think of shopping for 'modern workwear' at an old lady department store lol. I was turned onto it by a woman at work who always had very smart looking/put together outfits and now rarely shop anywhere else for slacks/blazers/suiting.

If you are looking for luxury though, Banana Republic has lovely fabrics and will do mild tailoring for free.

This is hard to answer. Do you have a budget? What industry are you in/is one that tends to be more formal (like law) or casual (like academia)? Do you need extended size options? Do you care about materials used? Do you need it immediately or can you wait for shipping?

Thanks. It’s healthcare so they tend to be not so casual and most people will be in their 40s and 50s I think. I don’t mind spending money for something good but I am also petite and never loved the look of suits and blazers on me.

Try checking out some posts on r/PetiteFashionAdvice. I'm sure if you browse some posts there you'll get something helpful.

If you don't like suits, I'd suggest dresses- which can easily be hemmed by a tailer depending on your height. Nordstrom rack has a bunch on sale right now. A simple sheath dress with an evening jacket would probably fit what you need.

trousers, blouse, blazer, sensible shoes. Lands End/ the Loft are my go toos.

YMMV depending on age and industry of course.

I always stress about what to wear to conferences and industry events, but then I go and people (well, women) dress in all kinds of stuff. Dresses, pantsuits, cardigans with dress pants, blouse tucked into pants or knee-length skirt.

I’ve noticed that omen in their 20s and 30s seem the most conservative—lots of pantsuits or blazers and pants. Older (than that) dress less conservatively— wacky tops, dresses, big heels. I think once you’re at a higher level professionally, you can take more chances with your wardrobe.

Men seem to stick to the usual button down, blazer, or work swag with dress pants.

So I’d say, wear what you feel most comfortable in, but maybe grab a blazer or nice cardigan to layer — you never know if someplace will blast the AC.

I like Talbots. Get a nice blazer and blue or black pants. I always shop the sales.

Talbots has a petite department and I often bounce back and forth between regular and petite to find the right fit.. There is usually a blazer and nice slacks on sale. Stay away from the "cutsie" stuff, stick with solids, and you should be fine. At least, worth a look.

Try Stitchfix or Daily Look. You can try but don't have to buy. Other than that, Nordstrom Rack is okay. I tend to wear black pants, short sleeve shirt, casual blazer, and my favorite black boots. Seems to do the trick
