The Good Afternoon cabbie moment had me laughing quite a bit. The movie was better than I expected it to be. Definitely fun

I died when Will Ferrell told the guy dressed up as Elf that he looks stupid. My wife and I were rolling, just caught us off guard.

Real question: does Ryan Reynolds just play Ryan Reynolds? Nothing against the guy but his humor has just been grating for me as of late, but I do know he can be good!

He does yes, but I found his Ryan Reynolds-isms to work quite well here

I was doubtful in the first few minutes, but we told ourselves "it's got Ferrell and Reynolds in it. Let's trust them". And that was the right thing to do. We enjoyed it quite a bit.

It does pay lip service to those criticising the vapid social media culture as well as the PR industry, and it does so somewhat superficially. But overall it's a really enjoyable movie.

Would I rewatch it? I don't think so. But I'll reevaluate in a couple of years.

I watched it twice. I thought it was that fun.

Okay. I’ll wait for you to report back in two years.

I agree that Spirited is an instant Christmas classic. Apple TV knocked it out of the park with that film.

Hallmark had a film this year called Ghosts of Christmas Always that had a very similar story. I'd love to know if they shared writers or story by credits but I haven't seen any overlaps.

Did anyone notice that Dolly Parton was one of the redeemed?

I had the complete opposite thought. >!the unique twist being that Ryan Reynolds the ass hat can teach the reformed Scrooge how to be mean isn’t exactly the loving Christmas tale I would want to tell in 2022. also the singing was not very good!<

It was not the traditional style of tale that I look forward to at Christmas. It doesn't feel re-watchable. I skipped ahead on some of the songs.

I found the entire plot to be offensive for a Christmas film.

Also the whole 'Ghost of Christmas Past' running joke that she sexually harasses Ryan Reynolds because he is attractive is disgusting to include in a kids movie, especially a holiday film.

Overall really disappointing.

You're watching a movie with Ryan Reynolds maybe that's a clue that there will be cussing and sex jokes.

Did you think Deadpool was a kid's movie too?

dennythedinosaur t1_iy0a3g4 wrote

It's rated PG-13 so not exclusively a kids movie.

Are you seriously going to tell me it isn't being made and marketed to primarily children?

Complete opposite for me. Had to shut it off around 30 minutes in. Couldn't take it anymore.

Thank you. After there being 4 different songs in the first 15 minutes I should have known. It was my mistake.

Absolutely agree with this. Phenomenal movie. Been jamming to the soundtrack all week. Good Afternoon!

Watched it last night with my wife, and we were very pleasantly surprised. Wholesome, funny, original, and loved the musical numbers. It's instantly going into our Christmas Movie rotation.
