If that's Budd Lake, you're about 10 minutes from Czig Meister. Some of the best craft beer in NJ in my opinion!

Sssshhh! If they see this we'll have to install something to stink up the nearest roadway from NYC as a deterrent like we did on the Turnpike.

Is this satire? I don’t see a “view” worth mentioning

Edit: It’s not satire I guess! And I feel supremely sad that so many people consider this a “pretty view.”

Like, what does the rest of your daily landscape look like if this is the highlight?

NJ born and raised, but moved away when I was 22 and back when I was 38.

Not being able to pump my own gas is the worst. Our gas stations are almost always awful, and it takes you 2-3 times as long to be there. I thought everyone was suckers for pumping their own gas while I sat comfortably in my car, until I had to do it. The time savings alone...

Czigmeister and Jersey Girl kinda dance between top two in the area for me. Poor Man Skirt is good but pretty consistently #3 for me.

Edit: JG's King Gambrinus is one of my favorite beers of all time though.

Batumi19 t1_j9u17j2 wrote

I haven't had the King Gambrinus yet, so I'll definitely try that one next time I go to JG.

I've never been to Man Skirt. I know it's right there, but I've just never made it over. Usually we go straight to Czig and then to Marley's for wings or order pizza from Davila's and then fall into a food coma.

I really think that brewery should change its name to Liquid Haggis or Lion Heart or something like that if they want to keep the Scottish theme.

Ya but in NJ you get to pull up and enjoy this view for 5 extra minutes while you wait for the attendant to start pumping your gas.

Late for work or some other appointment. Just sit back and enjoy all that NJ has to offer.

I wish I could pump my own too. Ironically, there’s a gas station in Budd Lake that I avoid because I don’t want to take on damage from one of the more reckless attendants.

The only real issue, at least up north, is I'm not convinced we have the space for the huge gas stations that you see in the midwest.

I don't even mean the Texas Bucky's. Just a regular one, well lit, clean, fully covered, with 6-20 pumps. Most gas stations up here are basically falling apart, with too few pumps, no covering, and not enough land to build something spacious and comfortable.

I live in PA now and prefer pumping my own gas but we also have giant Sheetz/Wawa's on every corner with like a minimum of 12 pumps at each. A lot of the NJ gas stations I remember growing up were smaller 4 pump stations. With the amount of people compared to the size of the stations, I feel like they'd get jammed up pretty fast. Especially with assholes who are done filling up but sit there hogging the pump while they text or go inside to take a dump or something. At least with attendants they can ask people to move and help maintain flow of traffic. I think NJ stations would need to be bigger for it to be practical there.

I hate that I can't pump my own gas because every station has one attendant and I have to sit there like an asshole while I wait for them. I GOT PLACES TO BE!

Analog_2_Digital t1_j9ubc68 wrote

For the people who are fast or in a rush it can absolutely be faster, but for people who take their time it can also be a lot slower (old people that stretch everytime they get out of the car, people leaving their car at the pump to go in and get smokes, people hogging the pump while they finish reading/texting something, airheads who have no idea other people are waiting on them etc). It might not be a lot, but it adds up quick. All it takes is a couple slow people and half the station is bottlenecked. I live in PA now and see people do this all the time, but it still tends to be faster than NJ because there's so many pumps you're never waiting on anyone else.

BoujeeMomme t1_j9ui5oi wrote

Yeah the comet is pretty much gone, down to Magnitude 8.2. That's like doable for us, but it would just be a smudge in the eyepiece. At its brightest (around Magnitude 5) it was super rad. Magnitude is a little counter-intuitive, higher numbers are dimmer. Magnitude 1 is supposed to be around the brightest stars in the sky, Magnitude 6 is roughly the limit of human naked eye vision.

But definitely come up for one of our public nights starting in April, we're open every Saturday night from 8pm and we'll have a talk plus stargazing from multiple really large telescopes. We've got one of these crazy things I'll be running this summer.

Because now the business selling me gas isn't legally required to hire extra positions, so they can forgo that for lower business expenses and cut their prices a bit to be more competitive against other stations thus making for cheaper gas

My dude, I was going to let this go, but you should know this. You are crapping on someone's joy. Maybe they live in the middle of a busy city and never get to see lakes/woods/natural beauty? If that is the case, then yes, this is a beautiful site that they thought was nice. So much so that they even wanted to share it with others so they can share their appreciation and joy. Did you consider that? Or consider anyone's feelings besides yours?

No matter what view YOU have that YOU are enjoying, what if someone with a much better view said your view is sad, even though you love it? It's all relative my man.

I hate to be the bad guy here in saying something to you, but hell, maybe a random internet stranger should be the one to tell you. Be more considerate and empathetic towards others. Or don't, but then don't wonder why people will have a problem when you say shit like that. Put yourself in their shoes. You can't tell at all that you are degrading someone?

I doubt you'll admit anything, or maybe you're just trolling us, but maybe one day you'll get it. Just be good to people my dude. Have a nice day.

That's a lovely scene. It's great to have some of the lowest gas prices in America and still have someone else get their hands dirty pumping my gas.

It's funny; when we drive around my wife sees the beautiful scenery, I notice all the damned electrical and telephone wires. I'd like to be more like her.

I see no reason for us to legally ban self-service. Give businesses and consumers that freedom. It's not like cars and stations are exploding across the country. Maybe it made more sense years ago, but stations are generally safe. It's an archaic and unnecessary law. But my position has nothing to do with costs.

The savings you predict only makes sense if the stations are trying to set the lowest possible price. Businesses aim to set the highest price while still maintaining demand. So I can't see these savings happening in any meaningful way.

What you said may happen, but it would only be a short-term fluctuation. The stations would adjust accordingly and then prices would creep back up because they would ultimately adjust according to demand (which ain't going nowhere anytime soon).

So if we do this, okay, station A lowers its prices because it has a sudden surplus. Station B loses some customers (it doesn't lose all of its customers because some people are loyal to brands or maybe they enjoy the shorter line for a few cents more). Maybe Station B gets some of Station's A's customers who want the service. Maybe Station B eventually gives in and lowers prices to be more competitive and everything is close to uniform again. (But none of these details really matter in the grand scheme because both stations know their customers will pay more if they push prices up, so they both gradually creep back to where they would have been all along.)

Demand is the ultimate factor here and all the stations will tinker with their prices to extract the maximum price out of you. So maybe you'll save a bit in the short term, but they'll get you right where they want you while providing fewer local jobs and offering you less service.

In not so many words, I agree with you, but I don't agree for the same reasons gif

This message won't make sense for a few years, but I'm going to write it and send it anyway.

If this is truly the person you want to be, once your day is over and you've put away your phone and all social media, and it's just you and your last few thoughts before sleep, you may feel a slight hollowness to your life. You can easily change that. You'll know what you have to do.

This little anonymous interaction is not about me. Your trolling has no effect on me. This is about you. You are clearly missing something meaningful in your life. Find it and you'll be much happier.

Take care, buddy.
