I mean, how many real cities does NJ have? Hoboken/JC, Newark, Paterson, Elizabeth? That's already being generous. Hoboken and Jersey City have made strides in road safety. It all comes back to car dependency though, whether it's in the 'burbs or in the city. And the measures proven to improve pedestrian safety all involve traffic calming / road diets / making things generally worse for drivers by not prioritizing them on 100% of streets and roads.

Two of my college friends shared an apartment in New Brunswick like 8 years ago. A guy claiming to be a utility worker of some sort came to their place and said the landlord had sent him for something (don't remember what). They let him in, he walked around the 2 bedroom place for a few minutes not inspecting anything in particular, just looking at the kitchen appliances, popped his head into their rooms, said he was done and left.

The following week, their house got broken into while they were out. Whoever did it stole the TVs and their gaming systems. After a few days they thought about it, called their landlord and PSE&G - nobody had been sent over to their place to inspect anything the previous week.

I forget where I heard this but I agree that New Jerseyans are kind but not nice, whereas Californians are nice but not kind.

Like a Jerseyan will fix your tire on the side of the road but then call you a dumbass for not knowing how to do it yourself. A Californian will sympathize with your plight but then shrug and drive on.

Rent a room in Trenton, go to office Tuesday/Wednesday (Monday and Fridays there will be train problems.

Or just get a hotel. This avoids your commute issue. Schedule Ubers for cheaper rides.
