It’s weird to think about but my wife has accidentally put in at least two or three because she thought they had fallen out at night. Now that she’s near blind, she can tell the difference before feeling it.

This is a perfect opportunity for both a learning lesson from the company to offer an easier to read option of their website and market that. Secondly, sign this guy as your ambassador and use his mistake to sell glasses, “Don’t be me..”

MrMiget12 t1_je7zinv wrote

Why would the company change anything? They just made a huge sale at this guys expense

24

Azudekai t1_je806gi wrote

Unless they have an incredibly draconian return policy they didn't make a huge sale.

35

Wojtas_ t1_je8ulxg wrote

Custom made products, like prescription glasses, might not be covered by return policies.

7

BobbyP27 t1_je8y1zb wrote

That assumes they are custom products. Reading glasses are often standard off-the-shelf items that you find for sale at places like pharmacies.

20

Enchelion t1_jeafmqn wrote

Reading glasses are rarely prescription. If they're prescription you usually just call them glasses.

3

stubborncheese t1_je83bb6 wrote

I mean I guess our definitions of huge vary. If they made $600 from the transaction I guess that’s great. But in the mass media world, it’s impossible to stand out, like why this article is even on this sub. Owning your mistake and making it a pillar of your new paradigm and using it to cut through the noise gets results.

Don’t focus on the short term. Everything is a marathon.

Funny, but shows an underlying problem. People that are visually impaired have to deal with stupid shit like this all the time. 60 pairs means 60 times the cost that you have to fight with your bank or the seller because you can't see well. It's just another constant hassle.

tinook t1_je84pet wrote

This is like the reverse of that Twilight Zone episode where Burgess Meredith breaks his only pair of glasses due to not being able to see clearly.

RawScallop t1_je9fhts wrote

So like, this is one of the few episodes I remembered vividly as a child because I felt so terrible for the dude when he was like "but there was time now.."

Like, I remember thinking "what an incredibly sad and scary ending"

I buy reading glasses a dozen at a time on Amazon. He has no idea how fast he’s gonna get through those. They get lost so easily!

I bought a 5 pack for my bf....

Down to one within a month and I've been treating it like the holy grail. I don't know how he does it, and he still has the nerve to try and blame his missing items on me because I must have "cleaned it up"

3

TommyTuttle t1_je9gvub wrote

Well, now you know they are available in a handy 60-pack. By the time you lose ‘em all they’ll start randomly turning up again.

Accept no blame.

3

fried_eggs_and_ham t1_je7jbi4 wrote

Websites where you go shop for glasses should have built in blur compensation so you can choose your Rx from a dropdown and the site blurs itself in just such a way that it looks perfect for you. Sort of like noise cancelling headphones.

Only slightly. When my father started wearing readers he'd just grab the entire "$0.50 each" basket at the counter at one point. Goal was to find one he'd lost at the same rate he lost them. Lasted maybe 6 months.

No joke, I have 12 pairs. 3 toilets, work, recliner, bed, garage, hot tub, truck, kitchen, and spares.

They are like $1.00 a pair on Amazon. Why carry a pair when you can just have a pair everywhere?

balthisar t1_je9ck02 wrote

I only have the bed, garage, 3D printer workstation, and office workstation, but then my glasses cost $20 each because each eye is different and dime store glasses won't work for me. I should add some to the living room, though. Thanks for the reminder!
