Please stop doing this, people. Leaving your child in a running car is incredibly dangerous. I really hope they find that kid safe.

People need to really fucking stop leaving their kids in running cars. God damn. Straight up negligence.

I don't think I believe that (it feels like piling on someone who's going through a lot), but I sure wish they wouldn't do it. Or maybe that people would stop trying to steal each other's cars. Either one would mean no more stories like this.

Parents should be charged with child endangerment. Why would any reasonably intelligent leave your kid in running car? It’s an avoidable situation. I needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

These fuckers need better editors.

That would really suck if you stole a car and then looked in the backseat to see you accidentally abducted a child too.

I don’t understand why you are being downvoted. Here’s my measly upvote. I assume the downvotes are from those who are not parents or at least not good parents. Cue my downvotes ;)

Edit: typo

Don't even leave a running car. Adding the child really ups the ante.

Bonus on this one, he also had two guns in the center console. Article said he had a carry license, too -- really disappointing behavior from a license holder. Hopefully, the console was at least locked. Have one on your person, not in a vehicle with a child.

Don't leave your car running

Don't leave your kid in the running car

Don't leave your guns...with your kid...in the car...that ate the cat that shat in the hat that was thrown at the house that love built. (Sorry, I forget the words to it)

Not trying to start a gun debate here, but among the stories of bad things happening with legally purchased firearms this year, this one is pretty low on the list.

I don't want to gun debate either. The vast, vast majority of license holders are highly law-abiding. "Legally purchased" is also separate from legally carrying. This isn't your typical news story. The guns I brought up (which oddly it seems no one in the comments knew about) weren't used in a crime, as they are in most stories. So, it's very "low" on the "news stories involving guns" list, in general. But I'll still call out what he did because it wasn't safe and the CCW community checks each other quite strictly. Not really setting out to establish a ranking.

Did you read the article? Dad was only supposed to be in the store like 30 seconds and the kid was asleep. If you have kids, would you wake them up for something that only takes 30 seconds?

I would say it's actually hugely important and should be called out. Accidental deaths by firearms, especially of children, is a big deal. 22 million children live in a household with guns, many unsecured and loaded, and at least 1,300 children die annually when they get their hands on them. 36x more children die this way than in school shootings, it absolutely deserves our attention.

Lot of victim blaming.

Nobody wants to confront the idea or people who actually commit the crimes in the city.

Idk if its a ideology thing or what.

SauconySundaes t1_iy8by3s wrote

Of course, but to me that's part of a larger philosophical question as to whether or not human beings are sufficiently advanced to responsibly wield firearms, which in my opinion is a big no.

Leaving a child in a running car for a minute isn't criminal negligence or child endangerment no matter how much you seemingly want it to be.

Sage2050 t1_iy8k7et wrote

>isn't criminal negligence or child endangerment

Edit the full statute:

>§ 3701.1. Leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle.

>(a) General rule.--A person driving or in charge of a motor vehicle may not permit a child under six years of age to remain unattended in the vehicle when the motor vehicle is out of the person's sight and under circumstances which endanger the health, safety or welfare of the child.

>(a.1) Applicability.--This section shall apply to the highways and trafficways of this Commonwealth and, for the purposes of this section only, the term "trafficways" shall include, but not be limited to, parking lots.

>(b) Penalty.--A person who violates this section commits a summary offense. It is a separate offense for each child left unattended.

So if you can see the car from inside the store it's not even illegal.

napsdufroid t1_iy8kr6g wrote

OK. You keep believing it's not illegal because it endangers the child. So in your mind, any parent who does this is absolutely 100% blameless should something happen...as long as they can see the car, that is. And in this particular case, how do we know dad could see it?

Sage2050 t1_iy8lv0m wrote

You realize criminal negligence and child endangerment are specific crimes right? They have definitions. Leaving a child in a car is a summary offense. So is jay walking and littering.

"Pennsylvania law makes it illegal for a person to leave a child under the age of six unattended in a motor vehicle that is out of that person's sight and endangers the health, safety, or welfare of a child."

Again, WHY is it illegal in the first place? You keep avoiding that question.

This is the post I was responding to >It's ok to call criminal negligence for the endangerment of a child what it is.

Leaving a child in a car doesn't get you charged with criminal negligence. You're just reeing about semantics because you want to win an internet fight.

It certainly can if the child wasn't brought back safely. It's based on the outcome of your reckless or negligent action.

1

napsdufroid t1_iy8oe8x wrote

Uh...if doing so puts the kid in danger, there's a good chance you;re gonna get charged with negligence or endangerment if it's reported. Seems like you're the one who really wants to "win" here for whatever reason. But hey; stay in your bubble. It apparently makes you happy.

Ragoz t1_iy8qp2a wrote

There is nothing they can do anymore once they fucked up this badly. They aren't in control of the situation once they left their child behind. You can choose to stop speeding at any time up until you crash.

They aren't the same at all.
