Avoid leverington street!!!
If you can avoid it try and take a bus or bike. The trail can be helpful and if you go down main street you can take a bridge over by the Wissahickon station where you are really quite close to the office park on city Ave.

hahah best of luck when it snows remember to pump the breaks and not slam on them and don’t be stupid and try and drive down green lane or leverington
Don't.
Edit: By all means, move here, I love living here. Just "Don't" drive in the snow/ice, especially if you're on Silverwood and have no choice but to go up or down the hill.

Get AWD with snow tires or 4WD with all terrain tires.
If it's below freezing you don't drive around manayunk
Get ready to fight for parking spots.
If you're uncertain and too afraid then stay off the road. I'm trying my best not to sound like an asshole.
Not knowing where on City Ave you're commuting to so FYI that the Green Lane bridge is an absolute shitshow in the mornings
Pump the brakes is good advice unless you have ABS. ABS pumps the brakes for you!
Park down the hill and walk to your car, if you’re able. But really, don’t drive unless you absolutely have to.
Wear mittens
Yea I have to imagine most cars have ABS now so that advice is becoming worse each year.

do not try to get up Green Lane in a snow storm...used to live at the top of the hill.

Don't drive. I'm not kidding. Don't even try. Take public trans. If you HAVE to drive, pay to park in a lot at the bottom of the hill or up at ridge
Monastery Ave. is a treat as well.

I’d say park up the hill by ridge and drive ridge to city. Depends on your walking preference. Ridge will be best paved road in the neighborhood.

The ice can be tough, but with where you’ll be living, just try to park down as close to Main Street as you can for your morning commute.
The commute will be tough getting to city ave from where you’ll be, there’s some back routes you can figure out by going through lower merion/bala area, it might be longer time wise but at least you won’t sit in bumper to bumper every morning.
I went to Saint joes back in the day, and if I needed to get to an 8am from manayunk, I was leaving by 7am, especially in the winter.

Walk

Get a set of dedicated winter tires. Pirelli Winter Sottozero III's would be my recommendation. Yeah, it's gonna cost. But it's less than a car crash.
Add flood coverage to your car insurance as soon as possible.

If silverwood and leverington are underwater, the rest of the city is 100% fucked lol. That's a water level rise in the schuylkill of like 45ft.
Call me when you get stuck. I’m about a block away with a trash can full of wood ash.
Also, DO NOT TRY TO GO DOWN THE LAST BLOCK OF FLEMING BETWEEN KRAM AND LEVERINGTON AFTER ANY KIND OF WEATHER. IT TURNS INTO AN INCLINED ICE RINK AND YOU WILL SLOWLY AND INEXORABLY SLIDE PAST THE STOP INTO THE TENEDR MERCIES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC.
Seriously. Walk.
I don’t know exactly where that is. I do know that parts of Manyunk flood frequently and I know several people who didn’t realize that and had their cars totaled with no insurance coverage. But hey, maybe you’ll never have to park at the bottom of the hill.
Get your own wacky parking saver, usually a stool or parking cone
Take bus 65, on bad days. The Bridge near the green lane exit on 76 and also city avenue are usually crowded, and ice it will make things worse.
You can also take bus 38 from WTC, it drops u at presidential blvd, from where it is easy to walk to PCOM.
This is true. Ridge is a good bet.

You can take a 9 or a 27 to the Wissahickon Transit center and change to a 65. Brings you right to PCOM.
It’s a great place to live if you’re not car dependent.
Only if your down near Main Street. Up here, we are high and dry.
It's about 45 feet of elevation up the hill, the river would have to swallow the entirety of mainstreet up to the roof line.
I've lived in manayunk for 6 years now, I've always had ample time to move my car before a big storm. sucks if you're out of the country.
Don't

Here you dropped this 🫱 a
But seriously avoid driving if you can. If your able bodied, bike with snow tires! It should only take you 15 maybe 20 minutes one way.
Remember when you were studying for your drivers license? That page about how to turn your tires when you’re parked on a hill is your new best friend.

65 bus

I live right off leverington and cannot emphasise this enough. only commute if you have to if it’s snowing/cold enough for ice, try not to go anywhere
[removed]
The best advice on driving in Manayunk is not to.
Take the Route 61 to Wissahickon Transit Center, then transfer to the Route 65. Or bike via the Pencoyd Bridge.
Don't

If it ever snows, avoid ALL main routes. This includes Leverington Avenue and Ridge Ave. because those roads will always be messy no matter what.

And also in the evenings. Fridays at rush hour when that one wedding venue on the corner has their valet nonsense going on?? Makes me want to rip my hair out

If you can get to Ridge, you’ll be fine. Welcome to the neighborhood!
Avoid leverington and Silverwood 😂😭
Park your car and take the 65.

u/Fxryker Honestly blizzak tires might be a good choice here. It's typically overkill in this area, but for Manyunk it's a good decision.

Hey I live at Silverwood on Leverington, take my parking spot and die
Save the street spot you shovel with a chair. If anyone parks there, it's legal to shoot them.
“Oh it’s right across the river, it’ll be a quick commute, how bad can it be?”
Scientist are still researching how a 7 minute commute becomes 45 minutes.

Get tire cables if it’s icy. The security chain company ones have a break in them so you can put them on without moving the car. Still sucks for taking them off though.

I slid halfway down Green St back in 2018. Fortunately I was able to stop myself by turning into the curb and hitting that instead of the car in front of me. I moved out the next summer. Good luck.
