I called up when he got picked up by a new station (I forget - later evening IIRC - WMMR maybe?) just to say how nice it was to hear him back on the air. He did some segment where he’d play deep cuts off of popular albums and he played Under My Umbrella from Morning View for me. Super cool interaction!

I didn’t even know Matt cord was a radio station host. I just know that guy as “Sixers announcer”

He used to do evening's on WMMR before Jacky, then went to BEN for the morning slot, now he's been on WMGK after DeBella taking Debbi Calton's spot.

obligatory "I met him once and he was a dickhead story"
In his defense he was shitfaced and this was probably 15+ years ago at this point, but he was super trashed at a bar I worked at (that will remain unnamed). He was there with a woman who I assumed to be his significant other, and about an hour in the two of them got into a heated verbal argument and causing a giant scene. She stormed out of the bar, and Cord was so shitfaced he just sat at the barstool refusing to leave and clearly way too intoxicated.
We eventually got staff to escort him out but he started blocking the front door and refused to leave. He pulled the "do you know who I am" card and told us he'd shit on us on the radio when he's on-air next. He even pushed one of the security guys out of the door then stormed off.
In our establishment's defense, we did NOT overserve him he had 1 or 2 drinks at the bar, it seems as if he was hopping around and was pretty drunk we he had arrived.
I still don't hold it against the dude, we've all had shitty nights.

This was THE soundtrack of my whole adolescent life! This is giving Preston Marilyn & Steve era, if not earlier. I won a call in impersonation contest when I was 15 and lied about my age and the unavailability of my ID to redeem my prize… good old days ha
I was listening live as the station changed over and thought it was a glitch or a new after hours hip hop programming they tried, alas…
I followed Preston & Steve to MMR but one day I just couldn’t take Steve’s constant interrupting everyone & soundboarding over people and it felt like the convos were more boring and the schtick felt rehearsed. But I’ll always have a soft spot for the old days!
Analysis-Special t1_j4ouupi wrote
I kept y100 on my presents for probably a year, and would check back every couple weeks to see if it was just a mistake and they had gone back to the programming I grew up with. I also tried following the crew to MMR but the music selection wasn’t my thing and Steve got really annoying.
My claim to fame was poking Preston in the head with a giant foam finger while he was presenting a prize at a wings lacrosse game on the Jumbotron. I didn’t make the screen but my giant foam finger did. Also got a fantastic “are you fucking kidding me” look from Preston.

Former part time\weekend DJ at Y100 (and Q102) here. It was like a dream when I got the on air gig at Y100- I was a huge fan of WDRE and then Y100, but got my first radio job at Q102. Took a chance by sending a little air check to Y100, when they called me to come in and told me I got the job, I almost flipped out. Was a great job- worked the over night shift a few nights a week (the 3am all request hour!) and led right into the PMS morning show. Definitely a highlight of my somewhat short but fun radio career!
