It’s Pizza J for me

Small parking lot, but there’s always easy, non-metered parking across the street.

Pizza J is my favorite too! Great for vegans as well!

Yup! I’m vegan and my partner is vegetarian. We always do a half and half pizza (her half with dairy cheese), and they’re great about it there.

Ended up at Providence Coal Fired Pizza and got the Four Cheese Pizza - amazing.

Pizza Marvin is the best - street parking is not challenging. Nice Slice - pretty good - street parking also. Caserta is not good - go for the parking.

There are a number of great pizza places in town, but I’ve been on a big Marvin kick lately. Has not disappointed and although it doesn’t have a dedicated lot, the parking is rarely a challenge. I don’t understand the Caserta’s love - there are lots of places to go to for the nostalgia factor, and maybe that is why Caserta’s has a lot of fans, but it’s not a place I could recommend to an out-of-towner looking for a good pizza. I feel like the only people who go there, grew up going there and now live in places without great pizza.

I like the thick crust, and the pepperoni. Providence has so many good pizza shops, I feel like there's a pizza for every mood. Caserta's for a thick crust & pepperoni with a hint of spice. Minerva's in Wayland is a bad day special, when I need extra cheese as I'm grabbing a pizza on my way home. Sicilia's for a deep dish that's meant for sharing with friends. Big Cheese (technically Cranston I know) is for the classic circle cut into squares with extra cheese that screams family meal night with the extended family, you get like 4 or 5 diff5types of pizza and the smaller slices mean you get a little of each one.

You've definitely hit the moved out of state missing good pizza thing on the head. I've got family in bumfuck nowhere FL where all they have is a domino's and pizza hut the next town over. I frequently buy pizzas and wimpy skimpies the night before I fly and freeze them, then pack in my carry-on because they're so missed.

I've driven 45 minutes to Big Cheese just to get a couple gyro pizzas for a house party before. Can't get anything that good in MA

I'm no expert, but my favorite pizza restaurant with parking is Caserta Pizzeria off Atwells Ave.

CaroKannyeWest t1_j5hagcr wrote

Caserta for me too. Been going there since I was a small child.

CthulhuAlmighty t1_j5i215a wrote

For those who have never been there, Caserta’s has very thick crust pizza.

I’m not a fan of it myself, as I prefer thin crust. Not saying it’s bad, just not my style. I do enjoy their Wimpy Skimpy though.

DrankinWock OP t1_j5hao71 wrote

free parking? or a spot at least

−4

iCaligula t1_j5hc3ms wrote

Yes, I believe there about twenty spots and the lot is just for Caserta. I never tried going at peak weekend dinner times, so can't say how long those spots last.

I love people just ignoring the parking part of the question and going right for the pizza part. As one should.

Francesco's and big cheese

Status_Silver_5114 t1_j5jb0tj wrote

Francesco’s on Hope? They don’t have parking. But having said that where in RI is parking a genuine issue - I mean really / we’re not Brooklyn.

3

Locksmith-Pitiful t1_j5jdkc2 wrote

Francesco's has a good amount amount of parking for both cars and bikes. Both are able to usually park right out front or in their side parking area. I go fairly frequently and go past almost daily, never had an issue.

2

Status_Silver_5114 t1_j5jiv9c wrote

I always have to park at the dead end just past it. But in the grand scheme of things it’s not terrible. This state is too obsessed with parking anyway!

2

mantisMD97 t1_j5l8qbv wrote

If OP is being as specific as I’m reading it, Francesco’s is not a pizza restaurant where you can sit and be waited on. It’s a counter service pizzeria.

Ok the street parking here has never been a problem for me but there is no lot. Piemonte Pizzeria on Doyle Ave small family owned it’s so delicious. And try their Kurdish pie!!!! To die for seriously a hidden gem!

n0m_chompsky t1_j5l6gqt wrote

Yes! Love Piemonte, I order from them more often than I care to admit haha. I live nearby so I always walk to pick up, but there always seems to be plenty of street parking available. Their chicken Caesar salad and pasta dishes are pretty good too.

I used to live 30ft from this place around when it opened and it was insanely inconsistent and flavorless/not good at all after trying 3 different times. wrote it off for years but recently gave it a try again and it was very solid.

malamujer9 t1_j5lhkct wrote

It was bought out by a family years back and I believe they have been doing an awesome job I’m sure it took a couple months to work out the kinks!

Jeff’s Pizza in East Providence. Odd location, dedicated parking lot. Delicious!

Impossible-Heart-540 t1_j5hjqp7 wrote

I think usually: the bigger the lot, the poorer the pizza.

But, Frank Pepe’s in Warwick is in a f*king strip mall, with a Walmart sized lot and it is my favorite pizza in the state.

Go figure.

I love Cassertas because it’s Cassertas, but they don’t have a lot of stuff besides awesome pizza.

If I was taking my family out? Pizza Ja has more of a menu, good beer, pinball.

Twins in North Providence is my fav. Big time family style restaurant, garlic cheese bread is literally slices of bread with slices of cheese on them. Pizza is awesome, get it well done. It’s kind of a relic, but not everyone appreciates it 😂

Co-opting this thread to ask about NY style pizza places in Providence and surrounds. What are the best? Seems like lots of local favorites feature Sicilian style which I like but not as much as a thin NY style crust.

There's a place on Hope St called Pizzico. Do not mistake for Pizza. They do serve a frozen cardboard pizza that is criminally bad.

Lot's of good stuff on here. Not mentioned: Al Forno's grilled pizza is the real deal.
