Hey I'm hiring immediately for our location in Chesterfield (Tommy's Express). I've hired almost my entire team from reddit, including a guy that posted here last week looking for a job. Chill work environment, pay is $14/hr plus weekly bonuses. I will also be hiring soon for our location that's opening in December in the Broad/288 area. Let me know if you're interested, I will get you in for an interview asap.

My former coworker's main job is at one of your locations. He had nothing but good things to say about the place.

Also, your haunted car wash is dope. I plan on going again tomorrow with a full car.

Well let’s talk about it. I hired my crew 18 months ago. Of the original 13, 11 are still with me. Not many retail establishments are having that kind of retention, so I think we’re doing something right. With their bonuses some of my guys make more than their parents some weeks (business is seasonal, so not always the case but it does happen). Three of my team members have been promoted to salaried positions making 50k+/yr. Our tuition reimbursement program is fully funding community college for 3 of them, and assisting another going to VCU. We promote from within and have one of the best work environments I’ve ever been part of. At a car wash. Show me another example of a low-stress job with that kind of upside and then we can talk.

I support you . I've read this whole thing, and I think you and your crew of reddit users are great! I also took advantage of that free month of car washing you guys gave out a while ago. I appreciate what you are doing!

I’ve met and as someone in a leadership position myself he is solid and has an awesome team that he manages as well as created here locally. I definitely recommend pursuing an opportunity with them.

VA ABC is currently holding hiring fairs, looking for people to assist with holiday demand. Generally a fun, laid-back job. You don't have to deal with upselling credit cards, or deal with the horrors of changing rooms like you do with other retail jobs. You just need to learn the basics of booze. You don't get benefits as a part timer, but there are regular opportunities to apply for management positions, and state benefits are pretty good. Just make sure to apply on the actual ABC website, and not on Indeed. Most stores just get a truck once a week, (not multiple a day like with grocery stores) and you open at 10, and most close at 9, so you usually don't have to come in super early, or stay super late. If you are Northside of Richmond, then you can consider working at the main office or the warehouse. They update the list of available jobs once a week. https://www.abc.virginia.gov/jobs/public/positionOpening_list.do

t1_iuhl8p6 wrote

I have a friend who is full time with ABC, it’s a surprisingly good job. I had never considered that liquor store employees worked for the state.

23

t1_iuhpv97 wrote

In Virginia, all liquor is sold by VABC. We have no independent liquor stores in this state. Prices are a little higher in Virginia for the consumer compared to other states but it's a great gig if you can land it. Especially considering VABC stores are pretty much everywhere.

8

t1_iui5w8k wrote

I definitely thought that a state owned liquor monopoly was an interesting quirk when I moved to Virginia, but imagine my confusion the first time I went to Pennsylvania.

6

t1_iuialxa wrote

I know when I was in college they still had that stupid law where you can only buy beer from distribution centers rather than grocery stores or something like that. Before yeungling was sold in WV we had to drive to Maryland if we wanted to buy it despite the fact there were stores in PA that were literally the next exit up the interstate.

3

t1_iuj224x wrote

Right now you can buy beer from grocery stores BUT there's a totally separate check out line you have to use to do so. It's sort of a second business operating inside the grocery store and you aren't allowed to mingle groceries/alcohol when checking out.

You can also get them to-go from bars, bottle shops (which I think are technically bars but they're designed to feel like stores), beer distributers, and some delivery apps. It's pretty wacky that you can't buy beer and groceries in the same line at a store but you can order a double whiskey shot at 2 AM for last call and get a six pack to walk out with.

Liquor is still entirely state run. Wine is sold via both liquor and grocery stores (which makes no sense to me unless there's a rule saying wine can be sold outside of state stores if it's below a certain BAC).

Just about any retail and shipping place is hiring right now in preparation for the Christmas season, you could take one of those jobs to earn some cash while thinking about your next step...

...whatever you do, don't take a job at 7-Eleven, especially the one near Grace and Harrison, as that one is robbed at least once every quarter. Good luck!

Is that little burger place in lakeside a good place to work? Lol

10

t1_iug4nfl wrote

Roy's or Carytown burger. The people at Roys seem stressed and Carytown burger seems to go through people especially the cooks a lot. Lakeside wise up all night bakery seem to have the most relaxed staff but maybe they are just tired. There is a new quesadilla place by the farmers market coming. They will be looking to hire shortly.

15

Quesadilla restaurant is already open.

Yes, Killa Dillas. I had one yesterday.

1

t1_iuj66xp wrote

2

t1_iujkept wrote

It was fine. Someone else ordered for me and one of the ingredients got left out, which under the circumstances was understandable. But it would have made a big difference. Quality of the quesadillas was reasonable. Someone else got the nachos which looked pretty uninspiring.

Food service is tough work. If you got a ride, looking into OSI restaurants like Bonefish, Carrabbas, Outback might be it. They pay their line cooks fair and if you can reliably tell which end of a set of tongs is the clicky side you'll be set. I know people who have worked for that company for almost twenty years and tbh even though it hurt my pride a little bit, it bailed me out when covid hit so 🤷‍♀️

And hey, I get it if you don't wanna do food anymore. It'll at least get you through the holidays.

t1_iuh7ay6 wrote

Pretty sure VDOT is hiring statewide. Check out their website. Also hit up for opportunities within the electricians union. I’m an apprentice in local 26 and it’s been the best career move I’ve ever made. Local 666, your Richmond local, is in need of apprentices. Great wages for the area, pension, retirement, healthcare and representation.

20

t1_iuh909c wrote

For anyone wondering, they PAY. Especially if you’re willing to do overnights. My little brother’s friend was working for them making like $28 a hour overnights. He got fired for not showing up lol. So there is at least one spot open!

HCPS teacher here. In spite of massive sub (and all staff) shortages, central office isn’t even calling qualified applicants back. A friend of mine, a certified teacher with 15 years of experience, had to call them 5+ times before they even noticed her application. And that was to sub. Sadly, I would strongly recommend not working in public education in any capacity or role.

Ups / FedEx also tend to do holiday hiring for the increase in demand. If you have to take a pay cut to get out or reduced hours it would be one way to supplement income
