all these people angry about this... it's literally the most interesting part of tennis. Every match should have a part in the middle like in street fighter with the car. '60 seconds to destroy 5 racquets'

Meanwhile in the NFL or NBA players get penalized for sneezing too loud near the refs.

This is a full out toddlers temper tantrum, like they dont even let you behave this way in kindergarten. Dude should be embarrassed that he did that in public.. let alone on a broadcast

This guy can eat a *duck. My daughter played high school tennis with a Walmart racquet her freshman year. She worked in the summer to scrape up money to buy a higher end racquet. She wept the first time it got a scratch on it. This guy should donate his next 100 racquets to some kids who appreciate them. Edit: here is a quote from a class act tennis player for context, “There are kids who would love to have a tennis racquet, so I will never break a racquet. If I lose, it’s my fault. Not my racquet’s.” - Rafael Nadal

Never a private person, Alexander made his tantrum a Bublik spectacle.

When other tennis racquets hear about this, you can be assured that they will try harder!

Nothing like showing the world how much of a toddler you actually are on live TV … three times no less. What a douche.

Nadal once said he’ll never smash a racket because there are lots of kids who would love to have a tennis racket, also he thinks it’s a bad example and he wasn’t raised that way.

Great man.

All of the people that say we can’t have a female as President because we are irrational, only men can lead…? Have you not been on the internet? Lol I am not going to take a screen shot of every tweet or Facebook post or tiktok I’ve seen of men saying this but here is an interesting article on how men have been socialized to think that anger is an “acceptable” and “masculine” emotion. It is very sad to know that this is happening all over the world https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/fear-intimacy/201911/men-and-anger?amp

Ok, one I can get. Your angry, you need something to break.

Two, if it was a bad loss, then fine. Just pay for replacements.

But three?! Three?! At that point you clearly have gone too far.

I think he should have gotten a warning + point penalty and more considering he smashed three in a row. That said players do get penalized for outbursts especially with regard to officials. Djokovic got thrown out of the us open for hitting a ball at lone judge not that long ago.

Ah, so he didn’t use a proper challenge system, he just brought a random camera onto the court. Correct me if I’m wrong, no one has been suspended for correctly challenging for a video review in any sport?

fane1967 t1_j88x1fd wrote

Never knew that whatever anyone (e.g. bystander or reporter) could video record and present in a non-edited fashion is worth discarding.

You see, being occasionally wrong is not such a big deal. Rejecting evidence that shows you’re wrong is just plain stupid.

Tennis players do get penalized for smashing racquets, they just don't show it in the clip. On top of that, Yonex, which is his racquet sponsor, also fines their players for smashing their racquets.

deeefoo t1_j9kxxz1 wrote

Generally speaking, the retail price for a high-end tennis racquet would be around $200, give or take. But that's for retail models that people like me and you can buy off the shelf. Professional players don't use retail models, they use custom racquets that are personalized to their specific needs and playing styles, which may bump up the price a bit. I think that's what they were referring to.
