The reviews kept us away for awhile, but my wife and I recently got around to watching it and really enjoyed it. We also watch a lot of British mystery shows so we didn’t mind the pacing so much. Looking forward to future installments if it happens.

This is why one should avoid the reddit hive mind opinions about shows. Too much of it, good and bad, is due to paid astroturfing.

Case in point: The Witcher. The haters put me off of it for years despite my love for Henry Cavill and a premise that sounded cool. Finally started it a few days ago, absolutely love it so far. It’s not a Mad Men-level masterpiece in storytelling or anything, but ridiculously enjoyable 4/5 television for me. Surprisingly brutal fight sequences, lavish visuals, solid acting, and even (hot take!) solid writing.
Wish I’d started it sooner but I’m kinda glad I’ll finish it right before Blood Origin comes out on my birthday (along w/ Amazon’s Jack Ryan, another show Reddit hates but that I really like!)

only the positive is astrosurfing by amazon, no one with money has reason to negative astrosurf

That's not true at all. There's a whole cottage industry of stemming negativity around shows.
Not to mention there's any number of reasons people would pay to create conflict.

By all means show me how much money these 'anti woke Youtubers' are making considering Youtube demonetizes and strikes them constantly for their opinions.
ThreeLittlePuigs t1_iu5j2tp wrote
You want them to dig up their taxes or what? Are you really denying that people get paid for getting views on YouTube?

So they don't know how much they make but are just assuming it is a lot?
You aren't exactly helping your buddy prove his point, just making him look worse.
ThreeLittlePuigs t1_iu5je0f wrote
I don’t care what you think, the burden of proof you’re asking for is insane and the denial it takes to accept your point at face value even crazier. I don’t know OP just know what sea lioning looks like.

Hahahahahaha so he made a statement that infers he has knowledge of the situation and asking him to share that knowledge is 'insane'?
Oh man how adorable!

Critical Drinker is estimated to make 700,000 a year.
Now granted this isn't 100% factual. But its a pretty good indicator. Youtubers make money from things besides youtube algorithms. It's not that complicated to understand.
You can also look at his patreon and see he makes 4000 a month from that alone.
Knife2MeetYouToo t1_iu5uctq wrote

If I remember correctly he's also a professional author and screenwriter.
At the end of the day suggesting you know how much money he's making off of Youtube is at best a total guess.
TheDuckQuacksAgain t1_iu61yy2 wrote
His Patreon is for his youtube channel. His books are only popular because of his youtube channel. And no he isn't a professional screenwriter.

Man, you can make some good money posting videos to YouTube complaining about “woke culture” and the latest controversy du jour. There are people with some very big microphones with a vested interest in keeping you outraged.

I thought it started really slow, and I understand why people got bored and abandoned it (my wife one of them). But I thought it really picked up at the end, and I really enjoyed it.

I'm one of those people who abandoned it. It kept putting me to sleep in the middle of the day, literally. It's visually stunning, but I found it so boring and flat. Now that it's over, I might try to binge it at some point, but it could not hold my attention.

Have you watch Slow Horses or Gangs of London? Second not really a mystery and first is more of a Spy Thriller but I binged the shit out of that last weekend and loved it.

Long doesn't mean slow. The trilogy tells the entire LOTR story in 9 (or 12) hours. That's not slow, that's dense. RoP takes 8 hours to tell barely any story at all. Hours pass where nothing happens. The characters are barely developed. We can't even begin to have character arcs because we don't know who most of them are in the first place. That's slow.
wednesdayware t1_iu5vj4q wrote
I would say we have a good idea of who all of the major characters are (The Stranger aside), what they believe in and stand for.

I've watched them, I saw Two Towers last weekend. I still found it more entertaining and it went 'faster' than any single episode of this show.
People don’t mean viewing length when they say its slow, they mean its slow
Baron105 t1_iu7k1ya wrote
Forget precise complaints. I read the books 16 years ago and watched the complete first trilogy maybe even further back but you could tell within 10 mins of the show starting that they had literally no idea what they were getting involved with.
The monologue on why a ship floats is literally so dumb alongside a myriad of other random happenings. The dialogue, the writing, the characters are all completely bland and outright moronic.
