It would be great to have transit running down Delaware Ave. Even without the El, some form of light rail would be neat. I've often thought about what it would be like having some form of light rail transit run down Delaware from Penns Landing, maybe even to Pattison and the Stadiums. Would be neat.

As someone who goes up to NYC somewhat frequently on Amtrak I cannot stress enough how much of a difference maker booking a few weeks out makes. You can do it for $40 or less round trip with the right planning. Something I do is if I think I’ll be going up during a certain month, I’ll just book it for an estimated weekend and bank the tickets. If I end up having to adjust or push the trip later, it may cost a little bit depending on how close I make the change, but I can move them and still pay less than if I made the reservation last minute.

It's just an alley. I don't have much info on where to find a gate system. I don't think the measurements are universal, it may need to be a custom job. There are metalworking shops around the city that probably handle jobs like this regularly, reaching out to one may be a good starting point.

It writes itself.

I think it just depends on a lot of different things. As someone else said, they share tracks with the spur so if they are up against time as-is they may not be able to. Also, if they are bunched up, as I have seen a bit of recently, there could be one already heading down into Walnut Locust to turn around, so they could be trying to make way.

For what its worth I've seen more than a few occasions where the local operator will make an announcement and the two trains will hold for a quick transfer. I've usually seen it at Race-Vine or Spring Garden, though. And again, it's not something that's scheduled it's more so if the two just happen to be aligned to make it happen by coincidence.

Not sure if it’s still there, but when I was at Temple there was a pizza place at the corner of Oxford and Master. Maybe it was called pizanos or something like that?

We never could tell how they stayed open because the place was pretty big but always completely empty save for a few sketchy characters. The pizza wasn’t that good. The service was shitty and I remember vowing to not go back there. It was our running joke that it was a front for the Russian mob.

Like a year later, before ghost kitchens were a widely known thing, I got the shittiest breakfast delivered from an unknown place on Uber eats. It was that pizza shop.

I think the big issue is that I don’t believe the resources exist to put more cops out there, at least for Temple PD. I don’t think they have more resources or officers to staff even if they wanted to. Money only goes so far you need recruits and nobody is going out for jobs with the Temple police.

City police is a whole different story, that gets you into quiet quitting and questionable medical leave… which is a whole other bag of words and not a Temple problem.

I think things will need to change City-Wide before the situation improves.

As someone who lived off campus at Temple for four years, and still works in North Philly, I get all the increased concern with crime considering the state of the city. At the same time, are we not reaching sort of an impasse when it comes to what the university can do?

More Temple Police and Philadelphia Police present? Last I heard with recruitment numbers and staffing levels neither department is in a position to station more officers in any one location.

More Allied Barton/Mall Cops? They were always very visible when I was there not sure if that's still the case. (I remember buying weed from a few of them at one point, actually lol) Given their recent track record on SEPTA in the last two years I'm not sure their presence actually serves many benefits as to crime reduction in this current climate.

If it's just unacclimated/rattled students and parents unspecifically asking for "something, anything" to happen, they are going to be disappointed because unless the situation in regards to crime improves city-wide I don't see how Temple University can do much of anything to stop this. They know it can hurt enrollment, if they had a cure they would use it.

I know in the past the community (and tbh a large portion of the student body) was always opposed to Temple increasing its presence in almost any way off campus as some sort of gentrification/encroachment scenario so I'm interested to see if that's hindered any proposals or changed in any way perception wise.

I lived next to boarded up houses, on corners that were basically open drug markets, more or less surrounded by homeless and addicts (both regulars and transients) about 5 or so years ago at Temple. It was never “safe safe” but I was never truly afraid and never had anything happen like what I’ve been hearing recently.

I had two friends get robbed in five years? There were a couple break ins where TVs or Xboxes were stolen? Again not great but it sounds so much worse now than it used to be. It happened so fast.

Hard to imagine recommending it to anyone these days, I don’t know if I would do it myself. These stories are getting ridiculous.

Xfinity is the defacto option, but you need to be in-line 1.5-2 hours before the first pitch if you remotely want a shot of getting in The cover for Game 1 Friday was $20, and there were no drink specials so I ended up getting hit rather hard in the wallet. Wouldn't recommend it, personally. Additionally, they don't tell the line when they cap so you could end up waiting in a non-moving line past the first pitch, for a long time, before you realize your chances of getting in are zero.

Chickies and Petes won't be as bad but there will still be a considerable line. I would recommend also getting there pretty early.

You will probably be able to get into Live! Casino, personally I'm not as familiar with the amenities in there as I don't gamble as much.

If you are planning on tailgating, and want to take full advantage of that without traveling/waiting for these options I would recommend leaving your tailgate 30 minutes before the game and taking the Broad Street Line back up to Center City.

I've been doing this recently for tailgates (Birds/Phillies) and I recommend it over any of the options down there. I don't really want to leave a tailgate early with more than an hour left to wait in line and the BSL is very fast with plenty of trains north.

You will probably be able to get into a regular downtown bar with a more comfortable yet still exciting atmosphere, that's probably cheaper, and without a cover or massive wait for drinks.
