I second this! He reattached my husband’s hand on the fly and was incredibly kind, informative, and thorough with care. Even helped with temporary disability and insurance. He’s up on Waterman street past brown’s campus around Thayer in Providence.

Gracie’s is amazing but on the luxury end of the budget - their sister restaurant Ellie’s might be a good shout. Sarto is great quality, moderately priced depending on what you order. I’ve been to other spots on the list, like Nick’s, and didn’t feel they were memorable.

I’m actually disappointed in the list but I say this as someone who keeps saying “in this economy?!” My coins will remain in my pocket haha.

Armando’s and Hawe’s in Providence usually have. Whole Foods occasionally has but they’re not consistent. Dave’s in Johnston usually has some too.

*got confused with Wegman’s! I’m visiting family rn and enjoying the thrill of having one close by.

I don’t have a better way to phrase this, but my Mama always used to say “hood rules apply” in any city lol. No valuables in your car (not even a phone charger cord), know your direct neighbors in case you ever need help, get packages delivered to the side or back if the house, very much mind your businesses, etc.

My husband grew up in Queens and I was a Section 8 kid in Camden so Providence seems pretty tame haha.

Your frustration is heard. I’m wrapping up work for a DEI org in the state that runs workshops on teaching empathy, anti - racism, etc. The CEO just fired me for requesting disability accommodation. This is an org that partners with public schools, is politically active in RI, and receives many grants from high profile donors… and yet, I am one of many employees who have been retaliated and discriminated against. All to say, I expect empathy from absolutely no one but am grateful when it’s given. So even those “doing the work” aren’t actually walking as they talk.

Uhhhhh, this isn’t the hot take you think it is. You can extend empathy to a country being ravaged by an unjust war but not for your neighbors, all fighting every day, in front of you? The US didn’t build a system to support or sustain the most marginalized. As someone who has been unhoused, due to an incredibly abusive household, I thank God that there are kinder people than you in this world. Gain perspective outside of your limited views.
