For me looking back, it's amazing how quickly New Market went downhill. I think it took less than a decade from opening to failure. That was one of the hottest areas of development in the mid to late 70s; had it thrived, the South Street corridor would have looked a lot different by the 2000s.

Yes, it was really nice for abotu a year or two when it opened (think of it as a precursor to the Bourse Building, witha lot of cool shops) that later nosedived due to a number of factors. I'm guessing high rents, not a lot of weekly foot traffic, and only minimal parking available all played a part. I remember seeing a lot of skate kids hanging out in the late 90s/early 2000s and knew that meant it was past its primeand was becoming a good place to get jumped.

It used to be New Market. I remember going to the Rusty Scupper seafood restaurant there (on the Front Street Side) some time in 76 or 77. I also remember there were a number of retail merchants and artisans on the first and 2nd floor levels. Dickens Inn anchored the Head House side of New Market as well.

Last week of August in 2021. The weather was very good and not too many mosquitoes to bother our son. We also toured Lake Bomoseen which is nearby; it was much bigger and had more amenities for families.

We camped at Half Moon Lake in Hubbardton with our 6 month old last year. It has a sandy/rocky beach and he tolerated the lake water pretty well.

Yeah, had their beers back in 2018 and they were stellar, on par with Foley or Hill Farmstead or even Alchemist.

The former owner was killed in a freak skiing accident about 4-5 years ago so I assume the business changed hands, plus COViD didn't help.

Try Essene off South. I've also bought TVP at Sprouts on Broad and Washington.

Yeah, I know. I used to live in Libs and used to get lunch at a number of coffee places, The Abbaye, Bourbon & Branch, Pizza Rustica and the Tap. Not sure how many are still doing lunch these days. And Jersey will always dump on Philly; it's just jealousy.

Then I guess Front Street Cafe is your best option. What about Northern liberties, since that's only about a mile or less than a mile away?

Front Street Cafe, then Mulherin's (spelling?).

Haha! Good one. No, I posted to our local Buy Nothing Group on FB and my neighbor picked it up. No accounting for taste, it seems.

I mean, why take something that is already bad, and make it worse? I eventually had to give that syrup away to a neighbor because I couldn't tolerate it.

I think it's hgh fructose corn syrup with synthesized maple flavor. I grabbed something likr this once by mistake and it was appalling.

Just read it and that essay neatly captures where we are now. It's all about the views. No community, just images of outrage trapped in a continual present.
