Ha, ha, ha! People think all you gotta do is dig a trench and drop the wire off the poles, not quite as easy as that. Cost varies wildly from rural to city, but fact is, where ever you are, it ain't cheap! And you're right, everybody winds up paying.

Public utilities are what keeps housing expensive. People are funny, they get accustomed to lights, heat, fresh water and sewers and of course internet and cell phone.

I was an early investor in Plug Power 25 yrs ago. They are a hydrogen fuel cell developer. Their goal was to build fuel cells that could power a 3br 1200 sq' house with a 1.5kw hydrogen fuel cell. The goal was, "The size of a washing machine price $5,000." (never quite got there. more like $25k-$50k powering remote cell towers and now indoor forklifts)

Anyway, off grid electric power technology would do wonders to open up huge amounts of land currently not financially suitable for development. Would reduce housing crisis dramatically in VT and across the country. I'm still waiting for this paradigm shift.

Generally 10 times more expensive to bury. Typically $75-100/ft for poles vs $750-1000/ft to bury for main lines.

GMP has already set aside $10 mil for Emerald Ash Borer remediation. Cutting ash trees from right of ways.

Or you can do what most people do now. Say fuck it! I'm not spending $800 for mindless repairs on an $800 car. Spend your money on brakes, tires, windshield wipers and oil changes.

My Subaru's have patches on the dog legs (over rear wheel wells) made from stainless steel serving trays I got at Goodwill. I riveted them on and patched with JB Weld. Cost $10 took me 20 minutes.

Patched the muffler with JB Weld and aluminum flashing held in place with a giant hose clamp.

The landfill in Coventry is lovely this time of year. If you get there at just the right time of day the steam from the snow on the decaying garbage creates an other-worldly photo opportunity.

Remember the qualifying income is AGI not Gross income. (Technically it's MAGI, but for most people it's the same as Federal AGI).

Other tricks you can use. Pay your January mortgage payment in December, take the additional few hundreds (or thousands) interest expense this year.

Also, pay your January property tax in December, same deal, tax deductible in 2022 (of course you can't use it again in 2023).

Listen genius, 'market rate' is not determined by what the University offers. They would get plenty of applicants for that job at $80-90k/yr.

Half of these admin jobs are glorified paper pushers that make zero executive decisions and just go through the motions.

They don't make sales, they don't generate revenue, they don't bring added value. They're just filling a role.

There's plenty here, just be prepared to pay up!

Want the best socks you'll ever own? Darn Tough, starting at $20/pr. (sometimes on sale)

Best flannel you'll ever wear? Vermont Flannel. Shirts start around $80, blankets $125. I got two of their beautiful bathrobes for $6/ea. at GW.

There's plenty here, bring a fat checkbook, and welcome back to civilization.
