Omg. Same old story “a huge upgrade”, “punches way above its weight”, “in a league of its own” etc etc. a new option in the 600 series. Yes, it costs a little more as Sennheiser is a business after all. Give it some time and the price will either settle down or the sales will become more frequent. The sound better be different than others in the 600 series and even the 660S or why would you be buying these. Just grab some of the music you like and audition these, and if you like them - pull the trigger, if not - there’s plenty of fish in the sea. There’s no end game single set of cans and there’s no single set that does it all. Enjoy the music and happy listening.

PS: and please try to explain the sound with music examples and how it sounds to you. How instruments and sounds are pictured in your mind. Stop using “mids” “highs” and “lows”….

yeah.

I laid it out for myself: LCD-X is a great musical headphone compared to the 800s, clears, and aeon2s.

And if I wanted to be reasonable with the money, LCD-X is the right choice.

Elites, however, are also not for everyone, since they prioritize fun and musicality over the accuracy of reproduction and other technicalities. But, if the Elite fit your sounds preferences they do become worth the asking price.

all opinions are of course based on my own listening experience so opinions may vary, quite a bit.

Sure you gonna enjoy the 560s but of course no one can guarantee whether you will be wowed by their sound or if you even gonna like it. Everyone’s hearing can be vastly different. However, if it’s your first decent set of open backs, my recommendation is to give yourself some time to adjust to them. Your first impression might be - that’s a lotta detail and highs and none of the low end - your hearing will adjust to the balanced sound for a period of few days. After you are used to them, if you still feel like the sound is too thin/shouty - consider getting a basic entry dac/amp dongle like ifi go blu or something equivalent form fiio.

That’s a great set up you got there! And an awesome track record! I had a chance to audition lcd x recently and they almost made me pull the trigger on the spot. But then I heard the elites and was absolutely blown away by their musicality. Definitely going to get the elites in a couple of months. Happy listening!

When I was a little snot my dad bought me sennheiser hd555 and an iriver ifp790. I didn’t appreciate those things at the time, only finding reasons to complain and wishing for more and better. It took me well over 2 decades to realize that man is responsible for my love for music and audio. Im not saying these cans have good audio, they probably don’t, but it’s the thought and care that really matters. That man cares enough to buy you a specific gift. Appreciate your old man.

Love my 800s. What a versatile joy they are and I’m happy with them like 80% of the time. However, I do like me some metal from time to time and I find it that I either have to apply a very heavy eq on my 800s or go for another set of cans. Ended up getting the dca aeons as it felt just wrong butchering the 800s sound. Though I wouldn’t say it was because 800s lack base. In my opinion their base is just fine. It’s just their rich detail and lightness is what makes me enjoy them.

Welll. In that case. How about overthinking that thought in another direction. What if that is like buying super specialized gym gear when you only started lifting. It won’t help you get stronger it might actually prevent you from building your technique. Your technique is your audio source and headphones are your specialized gear. Just another/ alternative way to take this thought.
