I honestly wouldn’t have guessed RVA would have aggressive down voters at saying “maybe by not tipping your to go person you might be punishing the wrong person” but hey, you learn something new every day.

I don’t go places that I know don’t pay hourly for to go if I don’t want to tip. It’s one thing if you don’t know but if you know and just don’t care you’re an asshole in my book

Agreed about everything you said about auto grat. It’s the same concept as them adding the wages to the menu prices. It’s just going directly to the servers instead of increasing the menu 20 percent

If I ever lose my job (I don’t have an education right now but hope to change that) and I still don’t have training you bet your ass the first thing I’m gonna do is try to go back to serving/bartending

Only reason I don’t go back honestly is insurance, and I started getting really bad pain in my feet from all the years of buying the cheapest Walmart work shoes catching up with me. Doubles started hurting pretty badly in my late 20s.

They think that their protest is actually doing something. “I refuse to tip for this!!!”

Okay, well if you are making an ethical/moral argument about why you shouldn’t be tipping, then you should ethically and morally be ordering food at places you’re sure pays their to go people fairly.

Otherwise, it’s not that you’re super passionate about the issue. I bet you won’t tell that to go person to their face you don’t believe in tipping them. It’s that you are mad at the system and you don’t want to tip but you want to have your unethical cake and eat it too.

(General you, not you as a person)

I agree with you in theory but in practice it is not the person who is bagging up the food who is choosing to be paid less than minimum wage. Some to go servers are paid less than minimum wage before the bump up. And yeah you can say “but they have to pay them minimum wage” but in reality your little protest isn’t hurting the business owner at all cause you’re still getting your food there. It’s just the person working to go who spent time on your order who may have gotten a little extra who is gonna wait for the dollar or two on their check that comes out to fifty bucks a week

I actually went with my friend maybe a year ago and yeah that one is one of the ones on thin ice

I was surprised at how far MacArthur has fallen too. I used to love to make the trip and drive despite how long it was a couple times a year. Always had cool unique stores like the Sanrio store and last time we went I can’t remember what was actually there but it was nothing that made me want to return

I will send you a dm soon! I’m gonna save anyone who expresses interest especially if they have another cat that is obviously loved already. I know some people want a first cat but since I don’t have time to do as thorough of a background check as a rescue seeing a happy kitty already there will make me feel like it went to a safe place

Well I must be poor because when it said upscale I thought maybe Abercombie, Hollister etc with some of those Tiffany type stores sprinkled between. So that’s why I bothered to go. I literally cannot afford anything there and if I was to splurge I’d just buy it online or at the outlets. I’d say with income inequality, inflation and more a lot of other people may feel the same.

Both of my other cats were also found this way, (one at Food Lion and one outside my house) and I can confirm. The other I found like this is literally the chillest, happiest, nicest cat. Granted I will say he socialized even faster than this one but this little one is doing well for it being the first 24 hours. I also think its sibling was the kitten hit in front of my house a day ago and it might’ve been sad/scared and looking for mom or sibling. I’ve looked outside but no trace of anyone else yet.

may have to check it out for sure, he was meowing and crying all night 😭 I tried to turn on rain sounds to drown him out but didn’t work well. (Figured that would be gentle enough not to upset him more)

he’s actually quiet now and I went and looked under the house to see if there was another kitten or mom he was meowing to, but no sign of anybody else under or around the house

it’s the right thing to do! i’d love to keep him/her because my favorite cat who I currently have, his origin story is very similar to this one and was also just found randomly meowing where i could hear from inside, but just can’t do another one unfortunately. plan to try to socialize them though once they get comfortable for a week or two and try to find a good home or a rescue after that.

if i was rich i would have sooo many cats!

i try to go but mainly go to chesterfield town center and/or Southpark but i love to explore new malls if i travel. it’s only a few times a year and i know if nobody goes they’re going to close so even though sometimes stuff is cheaper online, i go browse the clearance racks, eat at the food court, stuff like that so at least i am spending a bit even if i’m not enough to sustain it on my own. i figure if most of us who do like them make an effort to show up some it’ll at least give them a fighting chance. so long as they still have some stores worth visiting i will keep going

and also kb toys was the BEST as a kid right up there with toys r us but since it was in the mall it felt super special

made a post but i found this guy/girl under my house. my kid was in the bathroom and was like “uh mom there’s meowing under the bathroom” managed to lure it out with YouTube cat sounds and wet dog food (had no tuna or wet cat food and it was around midnight and everything i looked up said dog food was safe as long as it’s like a one time thing and not their diet). but i guess today’s adventures outside of the appointments i have is trying to discover if there are any more of them around the house or not.

i work nights and he or she has been fussing while hiding right under my bed. normally i would not be up at 7am but … at least little fluff isn’t going to be hit by a car or stuck out in the cold

will definitely send you a DM here in a second! still haven’t figured out gender yet, my guess is kitten is about five weeks old. which normally is a little soon to be separated from mom, but i read a few things saying basically if mom is actually feral (which if the cat i believe is mom is, that seems to be the case) they need to be taken a little earlier or they get “taught” the fear of humans and are harder to socialize than kittens with a cat that is just a stray who trusts humans for instance.it needs some socialization for sure. i live in an old house that has some weird hiding spots and it has been hiding out a bit but i think is slowly starting to warm up. it finally wandered out a bit and started walking up to me like it was semi-interested in my existence but then when i looked over and said hello it ran back into hiding.

edit: Previous commenter may not be interested in kitten because it is more feral than they thought. So if anyone else thinks they may be interested or know of shelters please still comment them! ❤️ I am going to keep kitten to socialize for a couple weeks and try to get FIV tests etc but past that I am not able to keep it

yeah i am worried after the one being hit and this one that there may be more. gonna investigate more tomorrow and call around as well and see if rescues have any traps to loan out. it’s about my bedtime for the evening, and i’m hoping it was a small litter and maybe those are the only two (only because it’s so hard to find homes for them sometimes) i am hoping since it isn’t peak kitten season i may have more luck than i have had in the past when i found kittens

if that redditor would be interested i would love for homie to find a home that would want him/her.

i tried to post a post but i think maybe the spam filter caught it. i found a furball (kitten) under my house after hearing it meowing under the floorboards. i really truly wish i could keep it but i have two cats and a dog and it wouldn’t be responsible or kind of me because i struggle to keep up with routine vet stuff for the other three with all the other bills i have.

i sent a few emails and will send more in the morning but if y’all know any rescues looking for kittens or by some miracle someone who wants a kitten for Christmas (NOT a spur of the moment one though like a planned Christmas kitty, do not want bb gifted to someone unsuspecting and unprepared only to get shuffled around) i could really use some help being pointed somewhere. i know sometimes they are full and refuse to take cats because there are so many.

i know my kiddo’s heart is going to break because she thinks it’s the cutest thing ever but i just truly cannot keep it. i am willing to foster it for a couple weeks while it gets more used to people if needed, but homie can’t stay permanently.

not sure if boy or girl because once i lured it with a little wet food and YouTube mama cat meows and got it inside it instantly bolted under my bed. letting it get adjusted before i try messing with it anymore.

a kitten was hit in front of my house very recently and i know the longer they stay outside and become more feral the smaller the chances of them ever getting a home is so i knew i needed to let it in at least for now

any help with where i can help this fuzzball go would be appreciated ❤️

southpark (colonial heights) is kept alive by fort lee. chesterfield town center and short pump seem to be rarities as far as modern malls and are really healthy. i have no idea about stony point because i only went once and remember seeing tiffany's and some other stuff and laughed at the fact that i thought i'd be able to afford anything and left. never went back.

anony804 t1_iyc2lpi wrote

it's been a while since i went but as a mall loving person my memory of stoney point was "nothing i can afford" and i left. and i love to window shop, but i remember maybe there being a candy store? and i literally couldn't even buy a few tshirts somewhere else or grab a bite to eat.

WHAT HOW DID I NOT KNOW TIHS

edit ugh it's the 90s in me but i hate malls dying. i am so nostalgic for them and love them for some reason. in fact when i travel i get excited to see a new mall. if i had enough money, i'd keep them all in business. i try to go a handful of times a year at least but i know that's not nearly enough. :( but all the memories of walking in them as a teenager and my very own kid asking to go to the movies and walk around for a bit with spending money... i just hate to see them go.
