Invest, speculate and vote for tax cuts on capital gains and for restrictions on immigration of poor people.

I didn't claim it would. Still doesn't work like magic and it won't happen overnight.

Projecting fantasies like complete post scarcity or a global UBI is pointless. A AGI would be like adding a lots of smart humans to the planet, anything less than AGI will give us the tools to do more ourselves. That's it. We'll still have climate disruption and ressource scarcity, for example. Political gatekeeping also won't stop, not at least because of the former mentioned things.

How difficult is it, compared to using a Nvidia GPU? I know AMD can be used, but the claim is that it is extra work and a lot of programs in the field are focused on Nvidia or require such GPUs.

I was referring to the headline: Generative AI, hype. It's about the current content production.

Yeah, and I strongly assume when they build some very skilled AI or something towards AGI, it will not have a long term memory about itself and a personal identity. It's just going to be a system doing tasks, without goals beyond the task at hand, which will be constrained.

Humans using technology in aggressive ways will be the bigger issue, and then governments using this as an argument for overreach to prevent more harm.

It's not about emotions, it's about ambition and autonomy. Doing things without asking first.

- Less scarcity in entertainment and media content.
- Less scarcity in cheap workers, including educated ones with debt.
- Less scarcity in services which can be done or supported by such AI.
Edit: Extension

Reply to How will the transition between scarcity-based economics and post-scarcity based economics happen? by asschaos
The way this question is framed is already geared towards some humanitarian ideal of unity and equity. I don't want that, it's unfair, and it probably won't happen. Post-scarcity is also something very questionable, since there will always be limits to certain things, including natural ressources.

They're currently ruining a lot of franchises, which indicates that they only think short term and don't really care about the future. They might also have their minds on other things, like e.g. climate change.

I'm a dropout who refused to work full-time over a relevant amount of time, now early retired on some capital gains. So, yeah, I was always wondering about that mentality. On top of it, they're programmed to delegate everything to governments and society, and give quite some of their money away for welfare, where they even don't dare to ask how it is used and if this is legit, or don't even dare to think about it. This is vaguely to what the NPC meme is referring to. Many of the same people are also getting upset if someone goes into early retirement, only works part time, focuses on hobbies instead of work, or something like it.
We'll see how much resistance there will be, since there's not much anyone could do against technological progress. It's too decentralized and too much hostility between the groups which would have to work together. 🍿🧘♂️

I listened to podcast (in German, Pritlove) some years ago where someone working for European Space Agency as mission planner did the math, and concluded the materials only need to get 10x-100x stronger to make it work.

My dude, it's very bad or worse than most people think it is. That's the only message by scientists. "Economists" don't count. It's just not easily solvable because entrenched political positions and interests, to an extent where it's pointless to care about it. We can only hope for technology to fix some of it, for the survivors, after the first real big waves of destruction came in. No one would take this risk and accept the loss of ecosystems intentionally.

There are reasons for why this comparison doesn't work. But I don't want to get into politics.

Interesting approach. I knew about the idea of using liquid electric energy storage in trains and cars. I was also thinking about robots and might have rad about this before. Problem is of course, how toxic it might be and how hard to handle.

Yes, VR is the reason I realized that the 4090 is actually interesting for gamers and we didn't reach the top already. (Not my own experience, just observing the market)

VR should work with wifi to use a home PC. Some sets do that, others don't. Standalone glases are basically mobile gaming. Anyways: https://youtu.be/dYHhVfcaXFA

It's related to hardware being used, produces and sold for other reasons and in the many millions. GPUs -> AI, LEDs / LED screens everywhere -> VR
But demand slowed down in both cases. Many people don't crave 4k, gamers prioritize refresh rates first. many decent games don't need the newest GPUs. Interestingly, together it's more attractive again. Better GPUs -> higher screen resolution -> better VR.

Yeah, these language models might be one building block, but their output will for example need to be parsed and related to world models and specific knowledge graphs. Also, people have an individual memory and many other elements to them.
