Having internal storage and having cloud storage is not the same thing.
Using iCloud Photos still requires for you to have some internal storage available.

Always leave some breathing room in storage, it’s different in all situations, but at minimum I’d say 3-5GB should be kept free. Hope that helps.

Try taking screen protector off and see if issue persists, if it does, likely a failing display.

Because the extra camera hardware is putting you closer to the subject, other apps are using digital zoom, so you’re degrading the image quality the more that you zoom in, which is why I’m assuming Apple doesn’t put that in their camera app.

You don’t see those options because your phone has only one rear camera, some third party apps can create digital zoom when recording, but it may be a pinch the screen while recording option rather than a 2x button.

Percentage does not always accurately represent current capability. I’ve seen phones with high capacities that die within a few minutes/seconds after unplugging.

My concern wouldn’t be about the screen, I don’t see that going out unless you’re constantly dropping the phone. My concern would be more of how much has the battery been used up to this point, that’s probably the only repair you’ll have to get done on it.

From experience working Apple retail, elderly people generally do not like to be surprised with new technology/different technology as they tend to struggle with what they already have and do not want to adapt to something new.
I’d say you’re better of talking with her and telling her that you would like to do this for her, and let her be part of the decision.
If just picking between the three iPhones, I’d say 12 Pro, unless your mom’s current phone has a home button, then I’d go with the SE.

Yes, it still needs to save a small resolution version of the photo on the phone's storage.
And your point is exactly why I do not use iCloud Photos. Would love to see Apple finally give the option to fully save an image on iCloud without taking any space on the device.
