I read an article some years ago, that perhaps the right whales aren’t reproducing because their hearts are broken. It was a very eloquent article, Smithsonian or NG, maybe Science mag, it wasn’t a blog post.

One of the reasons passenger pigeons went extinct is because they were too nervous to reproduce when they were in such small numbers. It’s not a psychological problem for many species but it was for the passenger pigeons. I think the article was hypothesizing a parallel to the Right whales.

That was a fascinating read, thank you! The bit about polio survivors getting the symptoms again when they’re older makes me wonder if it’s like the chickenpox herpes virus that re-emerges as shingles when the person gets weak or worn down. Maybe the virus just lays dormant for decades.

This comment will give you a good rundown and links to YouTube. Basically BlackRock is one of the reasons so many Americans CAN’T own a home anymore.

True on the arrows, lol! But there have been some very good analyses on why Bakhmut is important, having to do with logistics. I also remember that if Ukraine falls back, it is a pretty sizable loss of territory which would make it that much harder to win back.
