I finally finished reading Acceptance. It didn't really answer any questions and only raised new ones. I don't think it really contributed much to the overall story.

The appropriate response to this article should be, how do I set up my own cyber school? Joking aside, I do a lot of online tutorials and I have a few certificates for completing courses. It would be nice if some of this counted for college credit.

Trains are an interesting example of early technology and investment hype. I did not realize this until I read a history of financial bubbles. People used to be really excited about trains so they built way more rail lines than could be justified. There was some serious over-investment. It was comparable to Silicon Valley mania today.

I drove it last fall, but I just went from Lock Haven to Renovo and back. I also went to Hyner View State Park on that trip.

Yes, north Lycoming County is very mountainous and the highway cuts through the mountains. Route 120 from Lock Haven to Renovo is known as the Bucktail Scenic Byway and winds along the mountains.

The Ledges Hotel in Hawley has a balcony overlooking a waterfall. It is fairly expensive though. I just checked and it seems like you get a low rate in winter.

I go there at least twice a year. Once in summer and once in the fall for the foliage. It can be very crowded during the peak of fall foliage. There will often be some mist in the gorge in the mornings.

My brother lives out in the mountains and loses power every now and then. For Christmas, I bought him a Jackery Explorer Power Station. These portable batteries won't power a refrigerator or a furnace, but they will allow you to charge your devices and power a laptop and cable modem for several hours.

I never hike in winter. You have to wear orange to avoid being shot by hunters. The forests of bare trees is just depressing.
If you are in the State College area, you might want to visit Bellefonte which has some interesting Victorian architecture (unless you visited that city as a child). State College has changed a lot over the years. It now has many more apartment blocks and condos. I think there is still some major construction projects going on. The Arboretum would be new to you, but it might be closed for the winter. This year I drove out to the Bellefonte area often, but mostly to go shopping at the Barnes & Noble book store which is near the Nittany Mall. The Nittany Mall is pretty dead now.
