I don't really know how to precisely describe it so I'll just use beautiful. Stuff like Us and Them by Pink Floyd or Epitaph by King Crimson or Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd or SOUCD by Pink Floyd or you're starting to see a pattern here.

Though I think its a lot more beautiful in the context of the album it's on "Public Strain". You go through these haunting melancholic songs intermixed with noisey chaos and you finish off with easily the most optimistic and genuinely beautiful track off the album. The cover art is also really cool.

Agreed but I prefer The Bends. I often listen to it on the early bus when it’s dark outside. But it’s getting lighter so I won’t have the pleasure for much longer.

Yeah I like viet cong/preoccupations' stuff but I definitely miss Chris Reimer and Pat flegel, I feel like they added so much to Women with their weird dissonant guitar melodies and ambient stuff. Cindy Lee's stuff is also pretty cool but definitely more abstract.

My parents played Astral Weeks for me when I was about 7 years old. It was the first “proper” album that I heard when I was old enough to think about music in any kind of way. 11 or 12 would have been both too young and too old. I was still a small enough kid to just think of it as music that sounded good, without being so young that I couldn’t think about what I liked about it and why I felt it sounded good. It’s been special to me ever since and I’m grateful it was able to be my intro to caring about music.
