In other words, what movie do you think has the most feel-good ending? My answer to this question would be the final moments of "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" where Steve Martin comes back to John Candy after figuring out that he's homeless and alone for thanksgiving which always brings me to tears.

I'll just go with the obvious one: Shawshank redemption

An ending that could have been an ambiguous disappointment if Darabont had followed the book, but instead he put a perfect cap on the movie and allowed us to see Andy and Red reunite

  • Tommy Boy, when he gives that speech to all the Callahan workers and is then on the boat talking to us dad as if he were there
  • Edge of Tomorrow, after all he’s been through, he can’t help but to just laugh about it
  • Real Genius, they got back at their professor, had a bunch of popcorn, all to the tune of Tears For Fears
  • The Martian, which just sort of abruptly ends in the book, but the movie gives the story such a wonderful epilogue

As much as I'm not really a fan of the 2nd die hard sequel, when all the planes, including the one Hollies on figure out they can use the flames as landing lights. That music hits, McClane is laughing and plane after plane starts coming in for a landing.

The Martian when everyone goes APE SHIT, that they actually caught him and brought him aboard it totally gets you in the "feels".

I mean C"mon being close to the holidays...When Ralphie's dad is giggling with excitement after telling ralphie, hey what's that over there. His dad is literally like a little kid all giddy as hell as ralphie starts unwrapping the gift. His dad's excitement when he asks if he knows how to load it. Gavin just kills it in that scene.

I'll give credit to the original "The Santa Clause", when they rescue scott and start gearing him up and that ZZ top music kicks in the feels start...but the climax when the huge crowd around the house with all the kids and everyone is in complete AWE with santa and the flying sleigh and reindeer and everyone can't believe their eyes, with the added little bonus, of when they show some of the kids, smiling quite a few of them are elves.

Napoleon Dynamite.

Napoleon and Deb share a tender game of tetherball, Pedro wins the election, Grandma gets home safe from the hospital, Kip's relationship with Lafawnduh finally gets serious. Even Uncle Rico (the closest thing the movie has to a villain) gets reunited with his sweetheart. What's unique about the ending is that nobody learned any lessons, nobody underwent some grand transformation. These people just went on being their normal, weird selves and still managed to have their happy endings.

That whole ending segment is so insanely well put together. The way the crowd starts out laughing at them, then how they go completely silent, and Babe does his thing in near total silence...then it's over and the crowd goes fucking apeshit, and Farmer Hoggett gets to share his iconic line with Babe.

It’s one of my favorite movies, I particularly love the narration at the end.

“And so it was that in all the celebration, in all the hubbub of noise and excitement, there were two figures who stood silent and still… side by side.

And though every single human in the stands or in the commentary boxes was at a complete loss for words, the man, who in his life had uttered fewer words than any of them… knew exactly what to say.”

My honest answer for a recent movie that left me in a good mood is the bizarrely named 4th Rebuild of Evangelion movie: Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time. The character gets over his shit, figures out how he wants to live his life and fucking goes for it, helping others along the way and flirting healthily with another woman his age.

I'll throw out Midnight Run. Everybody gets what they deserve in the end.

The evil mob boss is brought to justice.

The long-suffering, stoic FBI agent gets to bring in his man.

The two-timing, scheming, lying, cheating bail bondsman has victory snatched from his grasp by the guy he was trying to screw over.

The honorable cop turned bounty hunter who had his family, career, and reputation destroyed by the mob boss is instrumental in bringing him down.

The fugitive on the run, a decent man trying to do the right thing, earns his freedom from the bounty hunter, and repays him with three times the amount of the bounty the guy would have received from bringing him in, then allows the code-obsessed bounty hunter to take the money by explaining, "It's not a payoff, it's a gift. You already let me go."

It doesn't get any feel-goodier.

There's no villain (arguably not even any bad people) despite plenty of characters that could easily have filled the role. There's no sudden setback to create tension. No relationship drama.

It's just such a fun movie. I love using it as an example that a story doesn't need conflict to be interesting. Not all journeys are about scaling Everest. Sometimes a walk in the park is exactly what you need.
