I think it’s mostly the rainy weather causing a little extra traffic in NNJ. Can’t speak on the trains, though.

Yesterday and today it took over an hour to go 22 miles. I’ve chalked it up to crappy weather - there were so many accidents yesterday morning and today you couldn’t see shit.

fluxural t1_itsptsy wrote

I think everyone has also collectively discovered the "secret" of going in earlier to beat the traffic and now traffic is solidly from 7:30-10:30am.

I used to be on a half full bus around 7:30 from Willowbrook Mall into the city, to arrive at 8:15, and now not only is the bus ALWAYS full, we ALWAYS arrive at 8:25/30 or worse now... However, the plus side is the commuter lot at the mall is so full that they don't care to check anyone's parking but the monthly people - I always park just slightly closer to the mall, in the "non-commuter" spots, and by the time I get back around 6 there's 50+ cars doing the same so it's no longer worth targeting delinquents if we're not actually taking up mall parking spots.

I'd leave later since earlier doesn't matter now, but the earlier I'm in, the earlier I can leave later that day...

Morons causing accidents because of a little rain, traffic getting rerouted, seemingly increase in traffic.

Also, for some reason, people just seem to drive much slower in rain.

Traffic has been horrible the past few months. I tried a few different times in the morning and it's been bad no matter what.

Right now I leave a little before 6am (I can start early if I want) and even then the traffic starts to build up around 6:30.

A lot of schools count the 2 miles regardless of if you can actually walk that way, I know Piscataway did. You can only get to the school from the hoes lane side, not the south randolphville side, because there are no sidewalks along south randolphville road. And yet that counts towards the two miles as if anyone could walk that way 😠

15

dexecuter18 t1_ittjgge wrote

Yeah, been taking about 15 minutes longer getting back from job sites over the last 2 days. Rare I get a solid frame of refrence but schedule is shaking out that way.

None of this is of course helped by the fact the NJDOT seems to have strategically co ordinated its road work to maximize bottlenecks. Like the clusterfuck that is now NJ36 to/from the GSP in Eatontown.

I was told by reddit that it's an employees market now, we'll never go back to offices, and we should tell our bosses that we won't even get out of bed unless they pay us double the tendies. Same with housing and landlords. Let's have a rent strike!

11

Mercurydriver t1_ittzyqc wrote

Unfortunately in our capitalistic hellscape many white collar workers are being forced to come back to offices even though their jobs can easily be done at home or remotely elsewhere.

The only people that actually want workers back in offices are middle managers that like to micromanage everyone and commercial real estate investors, because God forbid they lose a few dollars investing in a stupid antiquated concept.

When you relinquish authority to your kids to decide if they’re walking or not, you might as well just give them away, because you’re not fully parenting anymore.

I'd actually feel safer in an urban area. The suburbs have wide streets and people going 45 in a 25, running stop signs. In fog and rain. It is not safe, and I'm not willing to risk my kids life for it. The route to school was not designed for pedestrians.

Third graders and highways everywhere? You're still a child in imagination land if you think that applies across the board.

Of course, there would be exceptions, but don't come at with me a shitpost as if that shitpost applies to every single school, in every single county, and in every single city or township.
