It's kinda "get away with murder 101" to ditch a car in a sketchy neighborhood with the window open and the keys in it. Some kid is gonna take it for a ride and you throw cops off the trail.

Most likely, he has no idea about the rappers, that they're missing or whose car he was driving. Just some kid in a bad neighborhood that stole an easy-to-steal car (keys in ignition kinda thing) and will now be used by Prosecutors and Defense alike.

Contaminating a crime scene, etc, charges thrown at him so he rolls on random small dealers in his neighborhood to get less time and the Defense (knowingly) falsely accusing him of having some participation.

Or... bury the body vertical instead of horizontal, as to not tip off ground penetrating radar. You can go one step further and bury a dead animal on top to throw off cadaver dogs. The officers will likely assume false positive.

If you read the article the kid stated that he was told to pick up the car. Police went through his phone verified the texts and calls came from a man who had a warrant for fraud. Later the police got high quality footage of the man cleaning out the car wearing gloves prior to him contacting the kid to pick up the car.

Hi! Do you possibly mean "wary" or "leery?" Both of those mean "cautious," whereas "weary" means "tired."

Unless of course you're exhausted of pig farms, which might be perfectly understandable depending on your line of work, I dont know. I suppose if I was going around murdering a bunch of people, I'd get pretty tired of pig farms too.

What was the plan here but? Seeing killings like this and watching the first 48 99% of the hits in the US seem so poorly planned out no wonder the killers are caught within hours the majority of the time.

Torch the car instantly. What purpose leaving a trail of incriminating evidence on messages to a little kid who will fold and the vehicle still in play for if it’s part of the crime scene?

It seems you could get away with murder in the US for a good long time just being of above average intelligence as the system is clogged with cases like this every day.

Listen to anything on serial killers and you realize that the police are very bad at their jobs. They are better now with national databases but it's still really just the stupid criminals that get caught for the most part

I'll just have you know, since this story is about Detroit, that the majority of murders here go unsolved. If no one snitches and there are no witnesses it's very hard to get a conviction.

Yeah this is especially true with Detroit. It has to do with the system as well. Police are not very involved in the community they're policing nowadays, often living in cities outside of where they work. Murder cases rely heavily on witnesses and testimony (like a snitch for example) if there isn't much physical evidence or the physical evidence is inconclusive.

Because police aren't very involved in their communities, witness testimony and snitches are hard to come by. Especially in a place like Detroit. Murders go unsolved here all of the time and the last time I checked (when I was living there 6 years ago) the MAJORITY of murders went unsolved.

Edit: Being involved in your community as a police officer can also help you identify things like motives or tensions between groups or gangs.
