All of the options are bad, and legit this is completely disheartening to see which chuckle fucks are the "top four". No one with a spine will win (are there any spines in Council anyway?) and the bullshit of councilmanic prerogative will live on for another decade+. The city needs a reboot with the incoming mayor and holy shit, thinking of Kenyatta fucking Johnson as Council President does me in.

Cherelle Parker could've stayed put and walked into the position.

Pandemonium among the three remaining council members that didn’t resign to run for mayor?

Kenyatta Johnson as City Council President. Oh Heeeeeellllllll no! That's a nightmare scenario.

I would prefer that one of the members of the City Council elected at-large be made its President, because they are less beholden to the degenerate pathologies of the members elected from districts. That possibility seems unlikely to be realized.

I think that the city's political system needs to be radically reformed, but that is probably not practical.

It writes itself.

Crazy to think that on one hand we could end up with Domb/Rhynhart and Squilla, but on the other we could end up with Gym and KJ....

Well... I think of that lot my top choice is my councilman, Curtis Jones.

The at-large members should band together and put one of their own as Council Prez, district members should not be allowed to be council presidents

Squilla and Jones would be the better options, Bass would be bad and Johnson catastrophic

Crazy idea - what if Rebecca Rhynhart bailed from the mayor's race (as progressive and amazing as she would be as mayor - the fact that other candidates have "name recognition" being ex-council AND the unions are throwing their weight behind others doesn't give me hope that she'll make it through the primaries (and I say this as an independent who unfortunately can't vote in the primaries))

And instead she landed one of the open-council seats vacated by the prospective mayor candidates...then somehow got the votes needed to be council president (letting the currently fighting group split the votes, and she'll pick up the majority). In some ways imagine how much more effective she could be as council president in regards to getting policy into effect and manage spending. Let her council term run and a few years later with more name recognition be a mayoral front-runner.

This spring in the 8th District, Bass faces a serious primary challenger with enough support to possibly unseat her. Were she to win the council presidency, her tenure could be short-lived.

Sanchez should have kept her council job. She’s got no chance becoming Mayor but I think she could have made a run for Council Prez.

Nah, she belongs in the mayors office. With the tradition of councilmanic prerogative alive and well at city hall the president of city council is a pointless title if you ask me.
