Nothing about this comment surprises me. And if that’s evenly slightly accurate, nothing about hearing that’s what they believe, given the insane Christian propensity of lunatic rhetoric of this area, surprises me either. You could tell me James fucking River believes that it was actually Jesus’s teeth, specifically, who died on the cross for the sins of humanity and that’s why Billy Gail’s has 193 egg omelettes WITH a short stack on the side and I would 100% believe that to be the reason why that’s even offered on their menu in the first place. Slight sarcasm. Mostly fucking fact.

100% what it is. Connected to JRA.

Edit to add: there are degrees of laundering. One degree is loophole-"legal" through tax deductions and tax-exempted gifts.

A... random....example would be when a church "gifts" large amounts of money to an individual. And individual builds a business with gift. And then "gifts" money back to church. Skirting taxes. And then business owner gets special treatment from charismatic church that worships wealth/"gifts" from god, and business man is then also worshipped as a "good business man." Feeds the narcissism and the wallet.

We need a documentary.

I can vouch for the place. I’d give it 5 stars. First off, clearly, the place is unique. It’s really elegant and modern looking. The people in there were really nice. (I can’t speak to the owner and his whole prayer thing according to another commenter). But they also have a drink bar where they offer to make you smoothies, lattes, coffees, and even baked goods. The furnishing is ridiculous for a dental office. Each room has a giant ass TV that you can look up at while they work on your mouth. Hospitality is wonderful, everyone is friendly and asks you if you’d like a drink. If you get a coffee, you get a free mug. Comparatively, for someone with no dental insurance, they’re actually competitively priced. I had to get a deep cleaning done and when they told me the price, I told them I’d think on it, and called a few other places. The other places told me the wait, and the price, and needing new X-rays (fuck that) would be just about as much money. So I went with them.

Here’s the selling point for me though. During that deep cleaning, I refused the numbing agent that they inject into your gums, because fuck needles in the gums, and they actually cut some of the price off. Not only that, but because the hygienist went faster than she expected, she cut a bit more of the cost off the procedure. YMMV but without me even asking for it, a deep cleaning that cost me around $3k cut down to closer to $2.5k. I’m going back for my routine cleaning in February. Not a shill but I can vouch for the place being rated 5 stars.

Maybe he found the top 1% of profitable cases.

But this is either underwritten by some person or group of investors or there is some insurance scheming going on is my guess.

Dental has become more about being a commodity and less about skill and provider happiness the past decade.

The current rates at my dentist are $139 for a cleaning and $50 for an x-ray. I don't feel the need to get an x-ray every year, but even if I just paid for an x-ray every other year, that would be $303 at my dentist vs. $300 at this place. So, at least to me, the prices seem reasonable. FWIW, my dentist is in a shitty strip mall on Kearney. It was next to a titty bar, but I think that closed.

I've heard (secondhand, so grain of salt) that this is a very very good cosmetic dentist, one of the best in the world, and people from all over go to him specifically because he's good. Whether or not he's into shady shit is separate entirely, but cosmetic dentistry is expensive.

He's an extremely good dentist, I went to him almost 2 years ago to see if it would be possible to salvage any of my teeth in hopes of a decent smile and I ended up with teeth nicer than I ever imagined possible and I still go there to this day.

New business in town? It’s gonna be a dentist or a bank. But no, this doesn’t creep me out.
