Does it matter what people on the internet talk about if the numbers are there? I remember over a decade of "Avatar is irrelevant and nobody cares or talks about" ad nauseam online. It was to the point where people tricked themselves into thinking the sequel would be a major dud. Yet today it's sequel is the third highest grossing film of all time.

I think people really need to start to understand that the majority of the world aren't the sub culture of people that like to discuss shows and television online and the mega hits pull from people that simply watch things they like a time or two and then move on and don't get in the media frenzy about it.

Honestly some of the shows and movies that get the most talked about on reddit, aren't really the most popular shows. Andor was literally known for being one of the worst performers of the Disney Star Wars lineup on Disney Plus for instance despite multiple posts a day about it. This sub always had a hard on for shows like Santa Clarita Diet despite that not being well known to mainstream people.

At the end of the day, it either gets eyeballs and retains them or it doesn't.

It's Amazon. They have the money. People really don't understand that there is a WORLD of difference in how wealthy Amazon is vs something like Netflix or HBO/WB.

If Bezos really wants the show to run, it will. It's basically just being used as a motor for the streaming service. Which is just a motor for the rest of Prime.

Honestly it's only a good place to stop because it ends on a high note.

But I think people forget, it's basically all set up for things people have been excited about. You aren't going to watch the season 6 finale and want to stop because it teases

  • >!Jon Snow as King of the North!<
  • >!The reveal that Jon is actually the son of Lyanna and Rheagar and has an Iron Throne Claim and the consequences of that!<
  • >!Dany finally coming to Westeros to start a conquest!<
  • >!Cersei ascending to the Iron Throne to be positioned as the the final obstacle for it. !<

So it has it's own pros and cons. Imo the OP is spot on. People remember season 6 as good because they remember the last two episodes and forget that the rest of it was mediocre season 5 quality. And even then one of the episodes is basically set up for the disappointing next two seasons.

I think people just can't accept that GoT was pretty poor for like half it's run and a lot of the final season issues were a result of mistakes made years before. People just thought the payoff would correct it or something

This. There's basically Netflix which is consistently profitable and everything else is either in the red or might have a year where they barely are profitable before going back under. It's a total money suck because most of these came late to the party and have to compete with all the other people entering an over saturated market.

Right now I think the big ones are just waiting for the rest to give up and die off.

What you are missing that others are pointing out is that WB was in such bad shape that it didn't matter if Discovery was involved.

  1. If it stays with AT&T it's such a big loss that they start similar cutdowns.
  2. If they find a non Discovery buyer, AT&T are folding debt into the sale and the buyer would assume that and still have to make cut downs.

There was no third option where WB doesn't have significant debt and doesn't need a massive overhaul. As others have said, companies that could have taken on the debt, didn't want it. It was just mismanaged for years. When everybody loved HBO Max, they were basically burning money as fast as they could and everyone knew it.

Yup the whole thing about Pennywise is that he's essentially an eldritch horror from beyond who is designed to destroy worlds that got lazy as shit and decided to shirk his duties by making a corporeal form and just setting up shop in a small town and feasting on it's children every few decades.

As bad as Derry was, the rest of the universe kinda got good deal with IT deciding to confine itself to Derry until the Losers wiped IT out.

King has also alluded to the idea that Pennywise or maybe one of his spawn is still alive. Tommyknockers has a scene where they drive through Derry and in one of the storm drains they see silver eyes. Which in the books are how Pennywise eyes are predominately described. Then in Dreamcatcher there is a scene where they are in Derry and there is a memorial commemorating the Losers Club that has "Pennywise Lives" spraypainted on it.

Same reason Fox News gets good ratings. The right is pretty much condensed on Fox so everyone who leans that way and wants to watch that stuff goes there. Meanwhile everyone else is split between Kimmel/Colbert/Fallon.

That's pretty much been the bread and butter of that model. Create a monopoly on mainstream conservative media, be the only show in town, and then position yourselves as the alternative.

Because it became a public scandal, it was awkward for audiences watching the show after it came out, and ultimately they got replaced and the show didn't miss a beat because Robach and Holmes aren't stars.

So it was just easier to throw the problem away and run their show like normal.

It's not the fairest thing, but in the entertainment business your value and star power and how much your employer will put up with are on the same line and they just weren't that important to ABC for the unwanted attention it was getting
