13 miles round trip from the rim. If you can get a permit for an overnight at Havasupai Gardens, Plateau Point is a great place to watch the sunset, or to go in the morning without your full pack before hiking back to the rim.

At the end of last year, the NPS (at the request of the Havasupai people) renamed it to Havasupai Gardens.

Yeah, it's a neat spot. https://imgur.com/a/VQfCkF3 overlooking the river, and then big walls all around. We had a storm starting to build over the rim while we were down there, and it was a really sweet place to watch it.

The view from Plateau Point (where you can see the trail end, right in the middle of the image) is spectacular. Maybe the best view in the park. You're in the middle of the canyon, with the huge walls above you, and still another thousand foot drop down to the river below.

It's not just nationalities, it's other descriptors like that as well. In their post (which as far as I know was just a post of an excerpt from their guide, not a change), they also explicitly called out, ironically given your last sentence, 'the poor'.

How are you getting that? The signature on the photo sure looks like "Bryan" for a first name.

Pretty sure (aside from the Shuttle era) that all astronauts land in the ocean, and American ones are picked up by American ships.

I love Jon Bois so much. His 17776 is a masterpiece of modern creative fiction and is one of my favorite things ever written. Do yourself a favor and take a few hours to read it. Then do yourself another favor and take another few hours to read the sequel.

The tip is to take the shuttle to a hotel that does have one, and then get picked up at the hotel instead of the airport (avoiding the fees associated with airport pickups)
