I love Ahri’s Kitchen - their ramen is Korean rather than Japanese, but so SO tasty. Favorite kimchi I’ve ever had, too.

Strictly speaking, the cyclist was the one who caused the accident when he blew the red light.

Obviously it is egregious that Amy fled the scene after the accident, but it does not seem that any actions on her part contributed to it happening - indeed, she has only ever been under fire for fleeing, not for the accident itself.

Not a lawyer, but I don’t really think the cyclist has much ground to stand on as far as any damages that a civil suit might try to recoup. Certainly if she HAD stopped then she would be 100% in the clear and likely free from any financial liability. If anything, she’d probably have standing to sue the cyclist for damage to her vehicle. Good fucking luck making that case now though, Amy…

Honestly I’d like to see how the police like that. They’re not going to do shit no matter how many people call, so they’ll be driving over those nails in the morning too, and when they ask someone what happened last night that they’re all blowing their tires out, someone might finally piss them off enough to do something.

According to r/sanjose, police elsewhere have done just this. I’m pretty confident I saw a post in the last four months that talked about something like 800 arrests made for taking part in an “unlawful road show” - I just wish it weren’t such a laughable idea for JCPD to process 800 arrests in a single night 😂😭

>the Jewish holidays are part of the rhythm of life of life and community

There’s a Christmas tree and a little LED menorah in my building, about 80 units. I grew up catholic and I’ve pretty much foregone religion by this point, but I still love this time of year because of the decorating for the sake of celebration.

I noticed getting in very late last night that the menorah was still just lit with one light (plus the center), as it had been the night before, so I grabbed it to toggle the second light on. Even if there’s just one Jewish neighbor in the rest of my building, I hope they saw that they’re not alone in their particular form of celebration, and that someone else sees them and values their celebration, same as my own :)

Sounds about right, but also totally fucking miserable.

I often carry a 3’ metal pipe in my car that I use as an extension/torque multiplier for the handle on my little floor jack. I’m not sure which part of the other car I’d use it on if I found myself in the same situation, but suffice to say I am not terribly confident I’d have the self-control to leave it in the same shape I found it in.

Yep, since the advent of variable valve timing many cars that are designed to operate on premium can pull back on their advanced timing in order to accommodate lower octane fuel, by using the knock sensors to detect premature detonation.

Mine does not.

And even for cars that do, it is still not recommended to use lower octane fuel for a number of reasons. One of those is that you’ll tend to see decreased efficiency (MPGs) using the lower octane fuel - that alone may negate the savings you get on each tank fill. Another is that it takes a bit of time for the engine to fully adjust - it doesn’t just detect a single knock and immediately go into low octane fuel mode - and the accumulation of multiple early detonations can be harmful to the motor if the driver has a heavy foot and does not temper their acceleration habits while in the adjustment period. It can even cause the engine computer to run a slightly leaner fuel mixture, which tends to elevate exhaust temperatures and has the potential to damage downstream components - such as expensive catalytic converters - if subjected to repeated operation above optimal temperature.

Is it going to kill your car if you have to fill up in a pinch and only regular is available? No, you’ll very likely be fine. But you’re still better off filling with the recommended fuel grade - both in the short run (efficiency) and in the long run (operation outside of intended conditions).

I remember that station! Didn’t even realize it was gone.

Pulled in there once. Give the dude my card. “Fill with premium please.” Dude goes and swipes my card. Puts the nozzle in my car. Comes back and says “we don’t have premium, should I fill with regular?”

Me, dumbfounded: “…no” and with very much effort holding in the remaining “why would I ask you to fill with premium if I could just put regular in it instead? Jackass.”

Definitely waited until I saw him hit cancel on the pump before I left.
