Wasn't it originally MSN before it was Windows Live Search? AFAIK, the rename was just to promote their social network.

It's boy backwards, which I believe may be the etymology, though that may just be what I was taught as a child.

And I can't remember who, but a rugby team in the UK kept confusing fans for a while when announcing on social media the good news that players were resigning.
I think they've added the hyphen for newer announcements, but yeah...
I've had personal experience with similar as well, when a ready meal I had said "halfway through, remove from the microwave, lift the film lid, stir, and recover".

I thought Americans said Happy Holidays to be neutral to religion?

At the church I grew up in, it was almost always Happy instead of Merry as there were a few of the older folk who were against alcohol in the church building. (The communion wine was usually grape or cranberry juice)
Merry has hints of getting drunk in it, which wasn't exactly seen as a positive thing.

I don't drink by choice - don't see what's so special about alcoholic drinks - and I too appreciate when there's a good selection of Mocktails. Saves having to stick with the same old cola or lemonade.
