Agree with all of this. It’s a place like any other. It’s not especially cute or desirable but it’s a place to live that’s not going to break the bank.

It’s a poor city that’s stuck in the 70s arctic village is kinda depressed but there’s a bike path through it I take. I would describe it as a place where people still “smoke cigarettes inside” Remember everyone’s got their “normal” I would say try and get as close to the East Greenwich line as possible or look elsewhere if your gonna use the school.

It's fine, based on what you've said in other comments I think you'll be fine. It's not Providence or other towns in the northern last of the state. It's just run down more than anything, I wouldn't say it's dangerous by any means. There's crazies in all towns. It's definitely a town in need of a renaissance. It's located with quick convenient access to 95, other built up areas in Warwick, Coventry, Cranston, etc.

Although the RI state police did a big hells angels raid in providence last year, so you shouldn't feel too homesick.

I’ve lived in west Warwick my whole life, and my whole life I’ve heard that it’s the worst place in the state. Are they’re parts of west Warwick I wouldn’t want to live in sure, but I can say the same for providence, Cranston, and warwick. When people think west warwick they think of artic which used to be a hub of business and now it’s where the derelicts of the town congregate. People in these comments probably have never been to the nice parts of town and only regurgitate what they’ve heard from people who haven’t done the same.

You joke about that but they have an army surplus humvee now and pulled up to the stop and shop with super soakers filled with lukewarm Dels. I can put up w them making meme music but giving my car a sugar shellack is where I draw the line.

West Warwick is great. If you’re finding anything in say Royal Mills or near the Waraq/Cranghanistan line, you’re in good shape.

Anyone talking trash about west warwick has literally only driven through the 2 blocks of artic which are "bad" or just what they have seen on Facebook. Schools are good library is excellent. Bike path runs through. Lots of outdoor sports areas and parks. Close to everything rt2 and 95 exits. If you rent you'll have a yard and parking lot. You don't pay for parking on street. Police aren't shitty. Idk it's not "nice" but you aren't gonna be robbed walling down the street and no one's puting drugs in your kids candy.

I've gotten to know West Warwick a lot better since I moved right to the Warwick side of the border. I've lived pretty close for the past eight years but sometimes thought about how little I was actually there. Now that it's close enough that I could walk there in 10 minutes, I don't really have a choice!

Basically, it's a mixed bag. Some of it is gritty and unpleasant, other parts look like any suburbia anywhere. As others have said, none of it is really unsafe. There's even a little bit of charm there -- the bike path, old converted mills. It is very far from my favorite place in the state, but if you're looking for a value, you could do a lot worse. I guess that's not a ringing endorsement but what I'm trying to say is that it varies a lot from neighborhood to neighborhood and the worst that it gets is "kinda unattractive and trashy."

West warwick, most of Cranston and Pawtucket are all garbage imo. If you're thinking about west warwick you might as well just go to Coventry or Warwick. Much nicer and safer and only a few minutes away.

I had an apartment near the mall, there was water leaking from a chimney they never filled in, they just put a wall up in front of it. Needless to say, there was a lot of mold. Plus the light switch bubbled sometimes when it rained. Not my greatest moment but what I can say is that I felt comfortable enough to frequent the bike path by myself so that’s something.

Most depressing place I’ve lived for some reason

Just moved to WW in June and was honestly terrified based on what people have said here. Honestly, it’s not as bad as everyone is saying. Yes, there are parts of the town that are a little run down and may not be the safest but that’s mainly limited to Arctic. You’ll have to drive through the area to get to the post office and whatnot, but you’re certainly not in danger. Definitely look around Google maps to see where these places are, but I’m general definitely take what people say here with a grain of salt.

It's more the center of west warwick that's kinda trashy. Areas that border east Greenwich, warwick, and corventry aren't bad. The closer you get to the center of west warwick the crappier it gets.

Many statues of the Immaculate Conception.One with many small angels gathered around the Holy Mother. Just some things that do tell you more than what you see. Go and get a feel for a place, talk to some in area before you just move in.

Grew up there. Very close knit town. Not dangerous in the least unless your looking for trouble. If you become established in town and part of the community, you'll realize people look out for one another. It's such a small town that everyone knows everyone pretty much.

Also you might be surprised what correct full spectrum lighting can do for atmosphere and visual acuity while driving etc.Rods and Cones of the eyes.It makes a big difference for a great many. Look at recent technological advances. DIY, MAKERS etc.Have you noticed the circulator just got bottlenecked from the original design by extending crosswalks by effectively taking two lanes out out of the circulators original design for proper traffic flow. I lived in Artic for about a month twenty five years ago, and it was definitely full of derelicts. However, I had a friend who lived on the WW/Coventry line, and it was actually quite nice.

I have met many people there and I would say some sections are very nice. But if you have kids I would recommend anywhere else besides Oakland Beach. Cranston I would say overall is far safer at its lowest location.

There are worse places. Its lower on the list than most but I'd take it over Prov or Pawtucket, possibly even Johnston. It really depends on the area. Just about every city and town here has areas that are nice and areas that are not so nice. Just gotta look around. Unfortunately the real estate situation here has not improved very much so the options are limited. Be patient, keep looking if you have time. The only places I'd say absolutely try your hardest to stay away from us Prov and Pawtucket. WW, Warwick, and Johnston aren't bad, but they're not great. Cranston is obviously a good area too, but that's where it starts to get pricey. And then everywhere else expect it to be expensive.

Bottom line: Stay out of Providence and Pawtucket and you'll be fine

Living paycheck to paycheck in my $150k house dead square in the middle of Arctic (across from AJs) i was just saying, as someone's whose fiance owns his own landscaping company, that I know for a fact there are some really beautiful homes and neighborhoods in west warwick that are far from lower class. Yeah Wakefield St, Natick, Greenbush, are all great parts of WW. Even phoenix isn’t too bad. The main takeaway is yes west warwick looks bad in some spots but it’s not unsafe, I’d walk anywhere in the town and feel fine. Can’t say the same for providence or Cranston.

East Greenwich Ave neighborhood is nice.

The schools are horrible.

I put my son in a charter school in providence and drove him up to the city everyday. He would not of been a 3rd year graduate and Valedictorian if he had to stay in ww schools. He barely made it through middle school.

But I totally agree, try to get something over near the east Greenwich line... theres some really nice suberbish neighborhoods.

I grew up off East Greenwich Ave, and I’m in the process of buying the home from my parents. I’ve lived in Woonsocket, Burrillville, and Providence and I have no reservations about moving back home to WW.

As others have said, it’s really just Artic that’s undesirable, and stay away from LA Cafe 😂. There’s otherwise nothing overly unpleasant about it.

I moved here a year or so ago, so here’s what I’ve learned:

• LA Cafe is probably the seediest place in the whole town. But, even then, use common sense and you’ll be good. (yes I live near here, yes I’ve seen my fair share of first responders, and no I haven’t felt too unsafe even at 9:45pm getting off the bus)

• It’s not necessarily bad so to speak, but it’s still an old mill town that’s seen better days (much like Woonsocket).

• If you’re expecting to use transit quite a bit, you’ll most likely want to stay around Arctic, as that’s where all the local routes meet (the express to Providence, and the locals to Woodland Apts. and Centre of New England, and to CCRI)

• Piggybacking off the last point, if you’re looking for anything remotely walkable, I’d suggest staying around Arctic.

• Lastly, be ready to run into a few nutjobs. Not the drug addict type, but rather the conspiracy theorist type. They’re few and far between (thank goodness), but I’ve met a few.

I lived in Arctic for 8 years. It was fine. Not my favorite and I left 2 months ago but it’s affordable and not that bad. It was where we could afford our first home and it was a good starter.

Let me put it to you this way, I work in west Warwick and before I got that job the number of daytime streetfights I had seen was zero.

WW is trashy but not dangerous and like any city, there are some beautiful areas as well. Woonsocket is basically West Warwick North but a bigger city with more diversity. The best news is - you can drive 5 minutes and you’re in another shitty city/town. RI is easy to live.

It’s a working class town, a bit run down and it has a couple rough spots, but it’s fine. Visit the neighborhood before you rent, there are some cute areas but also some where things get a bit dicey. Similar to Pawtucket, Woonsocket, it’s a bit down on its luck but has good bones and good people. West-West Warwick is nicer than the Arctic area. Similarly, Darlington in Pawtucket and East Woonsocket are affordable and quite nice.

The cool arctic-icans used to wear baby blue shirts/pants with baby blue bandanas and probably baby blue sneakers.

I live right over the line in Coventry and it’s not terrible. Just a little run down in some parts. Never had complaints with any people, everyone minds their own business for the most part. As far as convenience, the only thing that sucks is if you live off of 117 beware of 7-9am and 3-5pm because it adds a good 10-20 minutes onto the commute.

I live in WW on the East Greenwich line and I like it here. It’s quiet but close to everything you would need. Just bought a house a few minutes down the road so my apartment will be available in a month or so!

I love west Warwick. Arctic playhouse is terrific. Valley country club is terrific. Royal mills is terrific but probably not super affordable these days.

Being from atlanta, a lot of snobs up here about their spot, and west Warwick needs work, but certainly has some upside to buy on cheap and make your way.

I live in Fox Point on the East Side of Providence. Highly desirable neighborhood in a lot of people's eyes (and I love it) but as for "Definitely run-down and sketchy looking" haha, that's a LOT of Fox Point 😆 ... personally, I prefer it to the overly-manicured preciousness of, say, the neighboring Wayland neighborhood.

If I had a car and didn't want to live in a city, I'd 100% consider West Warwick.

If your moving there from West Virginia it’s probably an upgrade in lifestyle, but if from any of the other lower 48 your trading down. We like to forget West Warwick exists.

Id live in West Warwick over most of Pawtucket and all of Central Falls or Woonsocket. There was a period in time where arson was an issue, but that was like ten years ago.

Used to live there for a total of one year down in artic village. I can tell you it’s really not bad at all. If that’s where you can afford to live go for it, it’s actually insanely better than providence and Cranston.
