You know you're old when you can describe it like a film narrator: back in the late 20th century

Edit with examples:

I got married last century

My parents were born in the first half of the 20th century

Can’t be that old when you were just born in the year of the flashback. You are getting old when you are still older than the protagonist in the flashbacks

I knew I was old one day when I walked into Urban Outfitters to shop for my daughter and there was a whole display of turntables and albums and it was supposed to be this hip retro thing and I was like, "Wait a minute, I remember using these things." When there is nostalgia for a time period you clearly remember, you're old.

Oh I see, so you weren’t actually saying what you were saying. Sorry, it’s hard to tell sarcasm on the internet. So what you actually meant was that scrolling to find your birth year ISN’T actually a good indicator of knowing when you’re old

−9

andurilmat t1_j6eaqh1 wrote

yes, its based on the notion of younger people never having to scroll for their birth year and referring to adults in their 20's and up as 'Old'.

it did however used to be a good indicator of when you were an adult as lists always had 20+ years before you had to scroll. mobile layouts and better website design have changed that.

In the movie The Mitchells Vs The Machines home movies of the main character (a young college aged girl) as a little girl and the date on the movies is 2005! I was a pre-teen at that time, so showing flashbacks in a movie of someone as a little kid during that time makes me feel super old.

Seeing the early 2000s portrayed in The Last of Us show is indeed pretty weird, with all the period-specific references and so on. It’s just now become that long ago

KuaLeifArne t1_j6egs4k wrote

I remember one Norwegian newspaper made a joke article on that date that didn't exactly say it was about Marty McFly arriving in the future, but it was very obvious that that's what they were talking about.

WutWhoSaidDat t1_j6f8lc2 wrote

Not sure what country I’m from matters, but it’s nice to know that people throw childish outraged hissy fits for no reason in other countries too.

I was also right about the triple down.

Will you go for the quadruple down and cry sone more about a guy making a joke you can’t handle?

FindorKotor93 t1_j6f991o wrote

Okay so you don't get the joke either. Anduril is saying we have flashbacks to almost any year, even toddlers, and making light of that with irony. Rainmace didn't get that and thought he was being dumb and not realising that it's a short time.
The country is relevant because there's a stereotype of yanks being bad at irony. It isn't true, you have brilliant ironic wits, but you also have a lot of loud narcissists who can't reflect on situations to understand irony.

1

FindorKotor93 t1_j6fa8mb wrote

I didn't say Rainmace was dumb. I said rainmace thought anduril was being dumb and made a joke about that because he missed Anduril's irony.
Thank you for proving what I said about loud narcissists though.

1

FindorKotor93 t1_j6fb0rq wrote

And you're showing entitlement, grandiosity and a total lack of reflective ability. And deceptiveness with that open deflection, implying an inability to hold yourself to account.I know what you are.
Last chance before the block now, engage my original explanation, apologise for your aggressive and incorrect attacks, or prove me right again.
EDIT: Sorry, accounting for your disability. Those are three options to pick from, not a list I want you to follow.

One's birth year being the destination for time travel makes one feel like a time traveler. For example, the movie Back to the Future. I was a baby during the 1950's.

Not all Businesses report to the Credit Bureaus regularly, even though it would be ideal, and proper to do so. These type of businesses will report significant situations.
Maybe you should have championed that matter earlier, instead of people's Reddit comments, oui..? Choosing to "cuss out" a business, because they do not report your payments, doesn't build your credit any faster. It is an entitlement. Research how some Creditors operate. They are not obligated to report good standing accounts, it is ideal for them to do so. You'll probably think my advice is also "cOnDeScEnDiNg" #GenerationIAMoffended

Mine stopped being used in flashback unless the character is a vampire or immortal. Also at the bank the other day mid January I reminded the tellers that we can't trust the weather to get warm and stay warm because of the blizzard of 93 being in March....they told me none of them were born then. I just blinked...I had to have a calculation moment.
