They're building a Sheetz at the corner of Genito and Charter Colony (at the crossroads above the 'E' in 'Brandermill') at the moment, too.

Thanks - I know I am probably missing others under construction - I only know about the WaWa that is taking the Arby's place over near Mekong because it is close by. Apparently they are finally starting demolition this month.

I went to NC for Christmas and went inside a Sheetz for the first time ever.

Having been a Wawa guy since my days in MD, I may now have to adjust where I get my munchies from. Sheetz menu is ridiculous!!!

There’s a sheetz under construction at Regency Mall or whatever it’s called these days

Time to compete with the 3 other gas stations on that corner.

That intersection is going to an absolute show in a year or two when sheetz is done, and whatever the hell they're buiding just past Food Lion is done.

As if my commute home wasn't bad enough thru brandermill lol

geneb0322 t1_j29jzc4 wrote

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to how that intersection will be once the Sheetz is done. I figure the other 3 gas stations won't last long, though, which sucks because one of those stations has the only Bullet's that I know of that still exists.

One of the Sheetz brothers went to my college and not only did he do a talk with business students, we got to tour Sheetz HQ! Their kitchen is basically a full dry erase board and they can come up with the most random ideas and write them up for potential to be on the menu!

hipscrack t1_j29lrxc wrote

Sheetz has a diverse menu that they do all right. Wawa has a more limited menu that they do very well. I have learned to love them both.

BackWithAVengance t1_j29m36v wrote

the BP?

That one isn't going anywhere - it's a one way in and out for people travelling that way. Unless they get rid of the divider that is, all of those gas stations are oddly sequestered because of the traffic dividers

alexfromjupiter t1_j29q5jq wrote

i’ll give you hoagies, wawa does best sheetz in that regard, but nothing, no fast food joint, will ever beat sheetz fries for me, those things are god tier levels of good

also sheetz has a better selection of munchies imo, plus sheetz is the only place i’ve found down here that sometimes sells my favorite candy bar so i know i’ve got a bias there lol

The one going up on Broad replacing the Arby's is about 3/4 mile away from the one on Staples Mill, as the crow flies anyway. But they're both major thoroughfares so I guess their stats people know what they are doing.

FattieBanton t1_j29uozo wrote

I wouldn’t get sandwiches anywhere but wawa, no matter how good they get at Sheetz.

“Fried everything” is exactly what I want when I go to Sheetz. This Christmas I was at my cousins and for some reason, food was taking FOREVER to be served. I ducked and went to the only thing open in the middle of rural Carolina and was able to get curly fries and chicken bites. I saw they also had mozz sticks, wings etc etc.

d4vezac t1_j29vbcn wrote

I think if I had both available to me, I’d probably still go to Sheetz some, but it would be like 85/15 in favor of Wawa. It’s the only option for food close enough to my work in NC to grab something during my break, and I just start to feel gross when I have to go there more than once a week.

FattieBanton t1_j29vflq wrote

I feel like I’m gonna have to go there during off-peak hours and spend half an hour with their menu. DP-BBQ sauce is exactly what I need in 2023.

Also, they had these massive soda bottles (1 litre?) for $1.29🔥

2

CarlCasper OP t1_j2aacgt wrote

For the moment yeah, but Sheetz has 4 new sites under construction and WaWa only has one. Sheetz also will go into smaller areas - they have a location at 60 and 522 for instance, Tappahannock, Roanoke Rapids.

JeffRVA t1_j2abiuu wrote

There’s another Wawa coming to Sandston at the corner of Drybridge Road and Route 60 just outside the town itself.

BiosyntheticStoma t1_j2aelmm wrote

WaWa has started to card everyone for the purchase of beer and cigarettes, and that upsets a lot of adults in my area. Sheetz gas is superior. WaWa has a kiosk for quick purchases, but you can’t purchase gas on it like Sheetz (Wtf). The only thing Sheetz lacks in is “Togo” foods. Rather bland and unappealing compared to WaWa.

Goaliedude3919 t1_j2afaa0 wrote

Couldn't disagree more. Sheetz has more variety and much better ingredients. At least they did like 5 years ago when we were closer to a Sheetz. I'm still bummed that Wawa is closest to us now. Hell, Wawa only just added burgers a couple months ago. And you can't even get them for lunch yet.

StarGraz3r84 t1_j2akw8o wrote

All the food I've ever had from Sheetz is hot garbage. Guess the meatball sub is ok, still better from Wawa though. I'd love to be a part of a Vs food comparison. That'd be cool. And no, I don't want cheese sticks on my sundae.

In my opinion/experience, getting out of the Granite Hill neighborhood before that light went in was gambling with your life. People fly thru the Food Lion intersection, so making a left out at that intersection at Melbourne was a blind crapshoot.

chasetwisters t1_j2bua0i wrote

Even before Wawa moved to Florida as mentioned, Wawa is everywhere in Hampton Roads which is further south than Petersburg. The furthest south one would have been the one off 168 at Hillcrest Parkway on the way to the Outer Banks
