Yes. This. Just like w every other social issue, NH has known for decades this was a problem. 10 years ago a state mental health plan was developed that didn’t get carried out. NH will never do anything it should unless it’s forced. I also work in the ED and applaud this decision because DHHS is like a child who needs a parent to ensure they’re doing their homework and who’s been given way too many second chances to be trusted. Hopefully the fed court stays on them to make sure the solution is also appropriate and not another half assed smoke screen

It’s not irrational. Thinking it is is a privilege of someone that didn’t get it badly or have to caretake someone who got it badly. Over 60% of deer ticks in NH carry the bacteria that causes Lyme. No need to stay in your house, but definitely use precautions laid out on this thread.

Edit to add: other ticks besides deer ticks carry other nasty tick borne illnesses like babesia, erlichia, anaplasmosis, etc. you do the same stuff to prevent the other ones but just because you weren’t bit by a deer tick doesn’t mean you’re in the clear

We need to hire people with appropriate educations and pay them appropriately across all levels of this system. Most that work there aren’t even social workers. The state tells them they’re child welfare and mental health experts and they have no such education that reflects that. You need a pulse and a Bachelors degree in almost anything and you’re magically a child welfare expert, w the education requirement actually dropping as they contract out to private agencies to manage cases

Remember prior to 2016-2018 or so when they used to publish that in the initial story before the AG’s office and DHHS changed its internal policy and refused to release info about that part so they wouldn’t look as incompetent as they are instead of actually improving their services?

Not to discourage a nurse from coming here, but as someone else in human services in NH, if you’re open to other places in New England, look first at Maine, VT, or MA. No state is perfect but NH is the worst in the region for human service based positions, and it’s continuing to trend down and not up. I stay here because it’s so bad and needs good people and I own a house here now, but boy do I fantasize about jumping the border sometimes with the uniquely NH stuff I encounter

WD inpatient wonderful, ED awful experiences every time. They have repeatedly turned me away and minimized symptoms that are serious and have then resulted in health crises and being admitted, having surgery, etc. and worst of all staying sick or in pain. I love every other type of service and care offered at WD but their ER just seems to really be a different story unfortunately, imo.

Do you really not grasp how your kids 'descent schools' at the expense of the majority of the state having 'not descent' schools is going to eventually negatively affect you and your kids if you plan on staying in NH? Large pockets of this small state offering a second class education to kids who will become adults with poor educations translates into the state becoming an increasingly low economic area as a whole. That means less new business locating here to create enough 'descent' jobs, drops in property valuations, more crime, more untreated mental health and substance use issues, more money needed for social services, more homelessness, poor quality elderly and medical care, etc. If you're able to see beyond your immediate present, it directly benefits you and your kids to make sure other kids who will soon be adults running the economy and wiping your ass in the nursing home have a 'descent' education.

I know in early 2000s it happened repeatedly because they just kept shuffling the same upper leadership into different roles as if they all weren’t cut from the same cloth and then were shocked when another one who supported the others got in the same situation. Don’t know about now though
